In my store, 90% of the people are very friendly/helpful/pleasant to be around, from the employees to the management (most of the time xD) to the customers, and the work's not half bad.
The only really negative aspect about working at Kroger is the pay. I really like a majority of the people that I work with, and that includes management, and for the most part, the customers are friendly too. If Kroger paid better, a lot of the people I work with, including myself, would be fairly happy there. Even on days where we're especially shorthanded, we wouldn't get as frustrated and stressed out if the pay was better.
Working for Kroger and the grocery industry as a whole is pretty much recession proof. Even thru the worst economic times Kroger is still hiring. People still have to eat. They might cut back on eating out but still buy groceries.
To be quite honest, if there is, there's not a whole lot. Of course I wouldn't keep working if I wasn't paid for it. The treatment I've received has gotten better the longer I've been there because more of the people know me and therefore they trust me. If you're just starting, just work hard and communicate well to develop the trust from management and you'll generally be solid. Of course being that it is retail and working around the general public most of the time you will run into nutcase customers and people that like to complain.
it's dependable. they're not 'going out of business'. there are some good people at my store and my store itself is nice. it's not rundown like many. the customers are ok, more or less.
For the most part i'd say the coworkers, there's some people that if I decided to leave the company I would definitely miss. Some days going to work actually puts me in a better mood since I have some good people to hang out with for a while :p Of course that depends on how bad of a day at work it is.
I've enjoyed being there with so many of the same people for so long that they are like family to me. I'm choosing to leave soon and will miss my store buddies for sure. After years of going through the same trials, there are bonds there that will be with me forever...but the bad times were really bad!
Well...you'll have some funny stories to tell your children or grandchildren one day about what it was like to work in retail! With Kroger, you'll have a lot more of those stories than most people.
Supervisors are understanding and will work with you. Most of the customers are friendly. Kroger will give anybody a chance as long as they have good work ethic.
