When they get in line just make sure to let them know about it first so you don't waste their time.
But how can you tell who has EBT? I've never been on it a day in my life, yet I went to the grocery store a couple years ago and got groceries and OTC meds. I had two orders, one for the meds to pay with my HSA card, the other for the groceries. The lady looks at me and says "You can pay for all of this together with EBT, you know." Excuse the fluck out of me...what?? No. I don't think so. I was rather rude about it because she was an ass. Don't ever, ever assume, or else you get what you deserve when someone gives you a tongue lashing.
That being said, there's a lot of people on EBT here, and on Medicaid. My hubby and I both make way too much money for either.

This Saturday night 11 PM- Sunday 11AM In Georgia their is going to be a statewide EBT outtage. I saw a sign at another store. I asked some managers at Kroger and they said yes the corp office is sending signs. We have not got them yet. Why not just make signs? I mean I know it is only a 12 hour outtage but our store is a big EBT store and we already have an issue with gobacks. I mean a huge issue and it is worse at EBT time my store already uses too many hours on someone to do returns. They should have already got these signs. I do dread next week. I do not understand why the EBT outtage has to be on the day it is released. Sunday is the 9th a EBT day. Maybe the system will not release them until after 11 AM but did they let the people know? If they did will they pay attention? I am just a little worried about this.
if anyone gets mad just tell them it is a EBT computer issue that is state-wide, not anything to do with the store. you understand the inconvenience but unfortunately there's nothing you can do as the outage is until 11am sunday.
i don't see how someone can get angry at you for it, but hopefully they can see the giant signs on the doors before they do their shopping.
we've had times that EBT or WIC (cant remember which) was out and was a state issue and people were generally understanding. We also had a day a few weeks ago where our entire front end system went offline for 45 minutes and even then people were understanding and not angry at the cashiers.
Good luck with the EBT issue. I know whenever EBT goes down for whatever reason we have enough go backs to feed a starving country for 2 lifetimes at the very least. Yes they should have had signs in place BEFORE the day EBT does their thing. That way it gives those with EBT to prepare.
Oh there will be time wasted out the wazoo, regardless of how many signs you post at the doors. Far too many won't read or will ignore them. I can tell that will be a problem because if some read anything, specifically shelf tags, they would know their 2 carts full of items won't happen with $150 of EBT funds. If your store doesn't have people like that, count your blessings.
My store put signs up the first. We have them everywhere and EBT isn't even that big of a deal at the store. Tonight we had a couple guys with two carts shopping at the register but we don't see that a lot.
It's sad to see some of the elderly customers on EBT.
