Sick of your ****, Kroger

Being my first job, I only expected to work 16-24 hours, but NO. 40 every week. I am a part time employee making 7.35/hr, and I'm trying to graduate highschool.  We just got a new store manager at our store and he is an imbecile. My department is understaffed, underpaid, and over-worked, and literally nobody will do anything about it. My DM can't do anything, the co-managers don't care, and the store manager is a tyrant.

Should I be getting paid more? Should I just quit?

Anybody here ever quit kroger without giving notice and experience negative repercussions?

Well, according to my union, minimum wage should be $10. Take that as you will.

Btw, 40 hours and still in high school? I applaud you for your great work ethic.

I love working for kroger.biggrin.gif  Long hours, hardwork, nasty mean manager and low pay.  How can it get any better than this?

Either you are a wimp and not cut out for the job or you do a really most excellent job and they can't stand to be without you.

Just kidding except, I do enjoy my job.  I would not quit without a 2 week notice.  You show good work ethic if you finish the 2 weeks as scheduled.  No one will really care that you stayed the extra two weeks except you.  Your priority in life should be finishing high school.  Then higher education so you do not spend the rest of your life doing grunt work.

Have you ever filled a time restriction form?  It lets the managers know what hours to not schedule you.

Speak to your Shop steward first to see if there is a remedy.  Then, call HR and see if there is a remedy.  Keep it factual.  Do not get emotional or whiney.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Just get out. BAIL. No, you're not a whimp for doing that. Fast food will pay you the same money......But you'll have the same stress. Until you earn ONEHUNDRED FIFTY MILLION-PLUS a year, you're gonna keep hitting the same wall.

It just might sometimes smell like somebody's ass tunnel and shaving cream instead of Mayor McCheese.

If you get full time you'd be bumped up on the pay tier scale.

Per Federal law the current min wage is 7.25 hr, some states have higher minimums as do some union contracts but that's bad info from the goober claiming its $10 hr. If you hate your job that much- it's real simple- quit. They are going to use you at 40 hours as long as they can rather than pay a higher level employee any overtime. Just because you were hired as part time doesn't mean that they are held to that. The business needs/overtime goals-( especially in the summer with a lot of the regulars taking vacations)- come first with the company and your store mgmts. well-being/bonuses. Kroger nor any other professional company will not give out any bad employee references- all they will verify is that you worked there and for how long and that is done through Division H.R. not your store mgmt. If one of your imbecile store mgmt. was to give a former employee a bad reference then they have opened up themselves to possible slander/libel lawsuits.  So give no notice, give a week, give them a month- it doesn't matter- but if you let a min wage job at a grocery store keep you from graduating in good standing from High School then you're the imbecile.
