survived a write-up

I called in sick on monday with 1 hour, 45 minute notification prior to the start of my shift (only needed 1 hour notification). Today I got called upstairs and they were going to write me up for a no call, no show. Apparently there's a new procedure that front end people have to call the highest ranked manager on duty. It used to be that we had to call the service desk, which the CSM is usually there or upstairs anyway. When I called, the ACSM answered the phone and she said she would notify the CSM. I thought that was it and I was in the clear. So when we were upstairs, I explained my side of the story and I did not sign the write up sheet. All that's left to do is probably a conference with the store manager and if the store manager says I still need to be written up then I'll fight it. I was not given proper notification of the new procedures for calling off work beforehand so I'll come out on top.

Yes you should come on top. Make sure the union rep is their at all times even when reading papers. Male sure you dont sign anything without the union.

yeah i guess if you're going to call out or even just be late now, they want you to talk to salary management.  a lot of good that does me if they then don't tell me on the front end and I can't cover or don't know to cover the shift.

Unfortunately a write up is STILL a write up whether you sign I'm or not... However I'd talk with the main manager first And tell your side. I agree to fight it... How can you know if they do not inform you?? Hopefully you come out on top. They tried something similar to that where I work and my buddy fought it. Now what they do is have any new policy posted in back on the bullitin board and on a paper handed out with our checks. It's up to us to read it or not from there.

Well here's the flip side to this issue: Do you really want to work in a hostile, mean-spirited environment like this? No one should have to work at a store where the mgmt. is just watching and waiting to write you up with the eventual hope of terminating you. Unfortunately most of the stores I've worked at are this way anymore. Move on to a job (Preferably non-retail) where you don't have to fight with the bosses and where people don't hate their jobs. Things are only going to get worse for you now barring a complete change of mgmt. and csm/acsm. I'd be willing to bet the acsm set you up on purpose on this call-in. Mean people suck!

I am the original poster of this thread. I am one of the hardest working people on the front end (as a bagger) and it seems kind of ridiculous for them to waste company time on a write-up that could have been avoided if they gave me better communication. I've had to bear the load of others who have called off sick and when I have to call off (which was the first time I called off since I started there), I'm the one that they want on the hot seat for it. Not to mention they also put the wrong date on the write up (on a day when I was actually there). So if they wanted to write me up, at least put the right date on it. I did talk about this with another co-worker and this has also happened to him and a few others in the past. Probably because the person who answers the phone doesn't remember to tell the CSM, or doesn't transfer me over to store management according to the "new rules". Also may I add that half the store managers are new and don't even know me yet.

Those are my favorite kind of write-ups.  Our hours are entered into kronos.  It will alert management that we missed a punch, late etc.  One manager tried to give me a write up for missing my day off!!  Whoever entered the krono hours screwed up.

Shouldn't the ACSM be the one getting the write-up?
