Major hour cut
Permalink

Something must be wrong. At our store all full time people have 32 hours instead of 40 and most part time people who have not been laid off have 15 hours. We have about 75 people including cashiers baggers and customer service and only 55 of us have hours every other department has their hours cut also. I don't see why we ahead a good last two weeks in sells and we are a large store that is always busy even at 1 am when we close.

I hope those full time people are checking the contract, 32 hrs may not cut it and they may be owed 8.  20 people on a schedule with no hours is a LOT.

One dept head was told ELMS were cut because of sales and yet, when we look at the weekly sales vs. ELMS projections, we're in the black every day of the week and every dept has been up.  What we really think is going on is management is looking to bonuses.

The cuts won't make that OSAT score go up.

Personal opinion, sounds like the store % effective store wide is crap for the period and Management in all there glory cut 20 or so hours off everyone's forcasted hours. Why? Could be many things such as a DM handing out letters to store management that do not make % effective and OT goals, or my guess is prepping for the next round of Key Retailing checks.

Check your contract.

There might be a clause that allow these types of cuts.  Could be the fulltime employees are being forced to use a sick day.

For a small Mom and Pop business, that means bankruptcy is close and people need to start looking for new jobs.

Kroger is a large corporation and I doubt they are going broke.

A department manager should know what is going on.

Good luck.

Also, are you looking at the E schedule?

Could be a glitch in the system.

If full timers get under 36 for 12 weeks they get cut to part time. Everyone is filing greviences. Management said we had 92 hours over time store wide during the first of the month and the 4 th of July. He said we have to make up for that.

Oh lord we had like 200 hours that week and management pretty much just ignored it. It was the only way we were able to cope with being almost $37k over budget in core sales that wed.

Yea I know right. We all have bills. And for going from 290 to 179 is over a hundred dollars. It's so hard to find good jobs.

I work 28 hours a week and make less than that.

How many hours you get should be based on your work performance alone.

Yes, giving hours based on seniority alone doesn't always work but you can't have a mentality of I'm older therefore I should get more hours either. Sometimes it's the younger people who work harder than the older people, because they've been working for the company for so long that they KNOW they won't get fired.

I agree with you 100% in theory, but in practical application that would be problematic. I have ~100 workers in my front end. Just think of all the lost time we would spend hearing complaints about other workers from ones who got fewer hours trying to make themselves look better.
