Just curious, has anyone been asked/told by management to come in and work a day on their vacationduring an "emergency?" I know they technically cannot have you come in if you don't want to; no matter what, but I was curious... Our management liks to "intimidate" at times. We have employees there so scared they are afraid to say they are on vacation. Is there anything they can do? I'm not sure if they are union or not..
Don't do it. They cannot be mad at you for not coming in when you are on vacation. Even on your days off, if you are not scheduled, you do not even have to answer the phone when they call. Simply tell them "My phone was off, I didn't receive any phone calls during my *vacation*"
We all get worked enough as it is, no need to go in on your vacation.
As long as I were actually in town, I would clock right in and go to work. However, that is ONLY because that shift worked would be overtime on top of my vacation pay. I have bills. It's not that I'd want to work, it's that I'd need to.
My overnight grocery manager was on vacation this week and they called him in last night. He said that he wished that he didn't even answer the phone, but they caught him off guard because he was sleepy. They want him to work two days this week because Key Retailing is coming at the end of the week.
Hopefully, he said "No." Or if he did they should give him back whatever days he worked on his vacation.
I had that happen once. Stupid Key Retailing, and I said no I was busy. They hung up on me. And when I went to double check my schedule I went from 26 hours the following week down to 16. Fortunately for them, it worked in my favor. Was able to get some things taken care of.
Having been @ Kroger for 14 years now, I would not work on my vacation unless there was a rare extreme circumstance. We all earned the time off, enjoy it away from the job.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with that. I'd still do it, though, but only for the extra money. If they still paid for unused vacation weeks, I'd work 52 weeks per year. Granted, I've only been here ~6 years, so further down the line I will probably feel differently.
