New cashier.. Tips? Tricks? Thanks
Permalink

I just started at kroger As coutesy clerk (bagger) . I did that for a 3 days now they are training me for cashier. Today I get to take a few notes and watch another again for a few then she's going to give me my cashier number and let me try for myself.

She says I can write down some things so I can remember them. So can you give me some of the cash register functions.

What to push to sign on:

how to clear register to scan for next customer..

I was told to hit eft to slow time.. Explain that more please

how to do coupons.

common plu ccode

those are just some rod the things I remember can you guys give me more. Thanks :)

- to sign on, enter your operator # then the "/" key then your password then the signon key. your op # and password are the 2 #'s they give you to run the register

-once the receipt has printed and you have closed the drawer if it is opened, your register is ready to begin another order

-unless your division has different ELMS rules than midsouth does (which I highly doubt) hitting EFT or any key combo to stop your time doesn't work anymore. at all. not just minimally. not at all.

-coupons are scanned just like items. if there is an issue with a coupon, the register will stop and put up an error message. learn to interpret them and figure out whether a coupon's requirements have been met.

-your store should have, somewhere, a list of plu codes you can borrow. if not, there are copies on kweb your dept head can print for you to study.

You will pick up your speed with practice. Be calm and try try try to have a good attitude when you clock in every day. also don't get caught up on the stupid gossip that goes on withthe other checkers and sackers just do you. Trust me Kroger has a lot of snitches and nosy people.

On a side note dont forget that when doing a check to make sure the I.d isn't expired or cut. If it is call your floor sup. Always check the 100 and 50 bills. And don't be afraid to ask for I.d if they make a big deal call a floor sup or management thats what they are tjere for its their job to handle people.

Here are some tips. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you have to ask very often. No reason to be shy or embarrassed. Also, when a customer approaches immediately stop talking to the bag boy if you are and focus on the customer. I hate it when people don't do this. Be friendly and polite even if it is BS. Make sure to say have a good day or w/e.
