Yes I was told this along with two other people all about the same thing.
Basically two people in the deli got fired for eating icing on a cookie. The icing was considered stealing from the company and while I didn't eat any of it we "let it happen" by never reporting it.
We didn't get written up for it but the whole thing seems blown out of proportion.

I would have to agree on it being blown out of proportion, especially if 2 people were fired...
Anyways, I believe what your manager was actually referring to was having put a record of this being your verbal warning on the matter in your file.
It doesnt sound like a write up. just verbal. im thinking they put the note in your file as a "heads up" to future management and to themselves as a "reminder" that you were spoken to and you are on their "radar" so to speak. We have had guys have 'notes' in their files as well as a future heads up to management and as a "keep an eye on this guy" reminder. i do not know if there is a way to be rid of the note after 6 months (actually lying dormant waiting for the time if you are fired and go through arbituary to get your job back and then reacivating itself) or if its permanant. I would ask your management about it first to be sure
It could be a Significant Incident Report, which is basically a note explaining what happened. It is not a write up, but just a reminder sort of thing for management. There are SIRs for good behavior as well.
