Anyone know what changes were made to the pay scale for Meat Clerks and Meat Cutters under UFCW 876 new contract ? Calls to the union office go unanswered and my steward has yet to provide a copy of the new contract.
Just to clarify, meat clerks are "clerks." Meat processors (which I assume is the other job you're talking about?) is indeed NOT listed. Meat processors were originally:
$7.90, $8.40, 8.90 $9.40, $9.90, $10.60, $11.20, $12.50, $14.00. They are part of a separate meat contract. I'd ask your department head if I were you.

Your shop steward probably doesn't have a copy of the contract just yet. Its going to take some time to print out the copies of the contract. I'm sure they will get back in touch with you soon, but here is a question I have for you that can help you in the future. The union is made up of us. We put the contract to a vote as a member to allow it to pass. In the future I would suggest going to the ratification meeting where they will outline the changes in the contract and read word from word what is in the new contract rather than waiting for the new one to come out.

Heres how we ratified the contract at our store. I work Tues,Sat and Sun every week. I left work Tues and nothing about a contract was posted anywhere. When I came in on Sat, there was flyers all over telling us to go to the hall to vote yes on a new contract on Friday, which was the day before. Btw, that was in March, which was 3 months before our contract expired, and we still have no copy of the contract available to us. Union is not real good at returning calls, but they are exceptiional at taking their dues on time.

The thing is even if a contract is ratified at a vote it still takes some time to actually get it printed and distributed. There are also some details to finish up in the contract, but the major changes are voted upon. Give them time and you will get your copy of the contract. Better yet, why not attend a union meeting to find out the progress of getting the contract printed? I've seen this often times where people will complain, but expect to do nothing. I've attended every union meeting this year.

I got the memo the day before and already had plans.
Now, I've talked to several union representatives about the printed/actual/electronic/final contract. I've gotten a different response every time. When I asked my steward about it, he told me "there's something wrong with you" and "what's wrong with you?" My steward also happens to be part of the executive board.
I get told by the union they can do what they feel like and they'll release the contract "when it's ready." I get told by my lawyer they have to release the contract by law. When I tell the union this, they basically ask me what I'm going to do about it. The only way to complain is to go to the labor office in Detroit and file a complaint in person which will take 6 weeks to process then they'll "look into it." I don't have the time or the gas money to do it. The last time I asked about the contract, they told me the reason they haven't printed anything yet is because they're still negotiating terms because of Obamacare.
Which I specified. They've ratified the main parts of the contract, but there is more under the curtain you don't know about. They're probably combing the final draft thoroughly to make sure nothing was snuck in after the agreement and Kroger has done that in the past. Would you prefer them to rush through and screw you over because they misread something in the final draft?

I'd actually would have preferred if they didn't pass this most recent contract at all. It was rushed through because of Michigan's right to work law.
