I have a dilemma...I have been working for Krogers for 5 years, the other employee has been there less time than I have. She is full time though and I am part time. The schedule goes in on Fridays I guess (that is what the manager told me) this girl told me on a Monday night that she is taking my Friday 9-5 (same week) and that I have to take her 11:30-7:30 shift because she says she can bump me because she has more seniority than I do- due to the fact that she is full time. I was told by another employee that if the schedule is already made and in the computer that even if they have seniority, they cannot take your shift unless the schedule has not been put in and finalized yet. I am frustrated with the situation because she didn't oven ask but that is beside the point, she just wants to change my shift and I have already made plans directly after work. It is only a few days away can she do this to me or is another employee right in saying that she cannot do that?
Thanks! I hope someone can help. I have looked through the kroger handbook too, and cannot find anything about this.
Yes, thanks for replying. I do agree but is there a rule that you would have had to switch it before they put the schedule in the computer. It just doesn't seem like you can pick and choose shifts in the same week from other co-workers.
Wait, tell me if I'm reading this correctly. Your saying someone is trying to change the schedule for THIS week after the schedule was already put up and finalized on Saturday? (In most contracts that I know of the initial schedule postings occur on either Thursday or Friday then finalized by Saturday at either 12:00 pm or 6:00 pm). If someone decided to try to get their shift changed any time starting Sunday, it's a no go. The schedule cannot be changed.
Check the contract. Under our contract, any problems with scheduling have to be addressed by noon on Saturday. A person can't suddenly decide in the middle of the week they want to work someone else's schedule regardless of whether they have seniority or not.
Yes exactly! She is trying to change this coming Friday, as of last night she was texting me telling me this. Do you know where I could find this rule or information to show my manager or to inform her?
Well, it varies by contract (which you should be able to get from your union steward, your union representative, or online), but since most contracts state by Saturday noon, your best immediate defense is your posted schedule. It should show the time printed on the top-left corner. Anything posted after 12:00 pm is invalid if you would prefer your previously listed schedule.
Also, if her "pulling seniority to take your shift" is simply consisting of her texting you this and not notifying anyone in-store through the proper channels and at the proper times, ignore it. In addition to waiting too long, she can't just tell you she is taking your shift and consider it done. Depending on the contract, she might also have been required to take your entire week, not just one shift. If that were the case, it's already too late for that as well.
In alot of contracts they state that the schedule shall be posted no later than noon on friday. She can't even pull rank because you're required to work your schedule unless its agreed upon you and the company. See if you can get a copy of the contract if possible and contact your union representative.

The only thing I can think of if the day switch was because of an emergency. Other then that after the schedule is posted switches can't be made.
a late switch still has to be with your agreement. someone can't just swoop in and bully you into changing mid-week.
and what was said earlier is absolutely true, it has to be through proper channels. in my store that's store management and it has to be done in writing by noon Saturday. these requests are kept on file.

in our store schedules have to be posted by Thursday at noon... an bumps have to be summited in writing an turned in by Friday at noon. they can bump only a few ways an at that they can only bump for earlier hours an more hours not exceeding 40 if you have more hours than you providing they have high senority... 1st way is they bump your whole shift (there 8 hours for your 8 hours) 2nd way there can bump coraspondingly (example.. you are working 6a-10a an they are working 10a-6p... they can bump you those 4 hours now making the schedule. as them working 6a-2p an you working 2p-6a).. 3rd way they can bump you the whole week (but once again they have to be for earlier hours) 4th an only other bump *note* this is the only bump you can do for later hours* is where they summit in writing to management an the union that they wish to go to 3rd shift full time for night cashier or night grocery.
other than that is has to be agreed by you an the other coworker in writing an approved by managmet befor the day in witch the work takes place (unless managment calls you on the day of an works it out themselves with every one agreeing) note bumps an switches can not happen if it violates the 10 hour rule.
the 10 rule is part of all contracts that state that there has to be atleast 10 hours between sifts of all employees working (some areas may be more or less hours than 10)
