Oversight or am I actually fired
Permalink

I was hired by Kroger back in late May/early June. I completed the CBTs and the classes, but never went through cashier training because of extenuating circumstances and a broken ankle and I won't be recovered until mid October. Also I was never given any contact information and my store was not currently completed so its not like I could call and speak to someone there. About a month into my never showing up, I received a call from HR telling me when my review was scheduled for. Then I received a letter welcoming me to the company and some other insignificant letters. Then it was a phone call reminding me to complete my employee survey. Today I come home to find 3 envelopes that show I've been enrolled in the benefits and retirement plan. And my login info is still active in the system and showing me as being employed and I received a pay bump.

My question is: is any of this normal? Are you still able to access the system as an ex-employee or am I still technically "employed" there because this whole experience has been weird to me. I'm interested in working for them in the future, but its not happening right now with my ankle and I figure this has been a massive oversight on their part and I am probably listed as being fired or discharged, etc.

You sound like George from Seinfeld.  Being paid to work but never being there.

Have you ever recieved a paycheck?

Have you been scheduled any hours at all?

Go to the store and speak to the store manager in person.  Or call HR.  Ask if you still are an employee.  Simple enough.

Normally, the minute you are discharged, your instore computer access is unplugged.  I am not sure about Express HR at home to view paystubs.

Yes, this is how we roll at kroger.  Somehow we make a profit but not many really know what is going on to get that profit.

Yep. Two paychecks and its stubs. And I can't go to the store. Its in nowhere near where I live and would require taking the whole morning to do especially with my broken limb. I really can't even stand on it for more than 3 minutes before I start to have physical problems. Even if I am still an employee, why would they have not tried to contact me before now? The whole thing seems fishy to me. Anyway, thanks for the help. Keep on trucking.
