Register Training Mode
Permalink

Yesterday my manager was showing me how to do something on the register and he put the register in training mode. Does anyone know how to do this?

I want to know because I like knowing everything about the registers and messing around with them when I don't have a customer.

I can't remember the exact keys but you can find out how/if you can do it. Hit operator/nosale then total. It will print all the miscellaneous operations you are allowed to perform and how to do them. If training mode is on there, there you go. Make sure you exit it by signing off then back on before doing any real transactions or they won't be recorded at all.

Back when I was a checker you had to have a key to do stuff like that.

They replaced keys with barcode-based overrides and operator-level permissions.

Is that on the new touch screen registers?

No that's on the not-new regular registers. They've been like that in my area for years.

You need to be careful doing anything like that at all or during regular business hours and on the clock...if you are playing around with that mode and a customer shows up, you might forget to put the register in normal operation mode...Loss Prevention will have a field day with you and you might be terminated on the spot for fraud and theft...were you planning to pocket the money AND give away free product!?!?!?! Remember it's a cash machine and it's frowned upon to mess with it...there's a reason why Kroger has cameras over EVERY register...be careful...
