I want to switch departments! How long do i have to wait before i can switch departments? My manager and a supervisor always seems to have a nasty attitude when i ask a question...There is only 2 supervisors i have worked with that are absolutely sweethearts but the rest i cant deal with. The rest are soooo bitchy like i am not an emotional person but once of the managers almost made me cry in front of a customer -_______-
I'm still kind of new and I have gotten better with the register but once in a while i may make a mistake. And have to ask the supervisor for help and he's all bitchy and so i hate asking him questions because I feel like crap afterwards. Plus i constantly have to deal with customer who are upset because we are remodeling so they bitch at the cashiers as if we have control over it.
I can tolerate the pissed off customers but when you have a bitchy manager and supervisor on top of bitchy customers , yea just makes my job harder. And usually i and one other person are the only cashiers working. They schedule all the baggers and cashiers in the morning when its barely any customers so we are shorthanded every night. I never have a bagger so i get customer with carts full of crap sometimes 2 carts and i have to ring up and try to bag their groceries all by myself . This slows me down tremendously because I try to be careful to make sure the customers groceries doesnt fall off the conveyor belt and break, and then the managers bitch at me because I am not keeping up my speed.
Welp I am over 18 and I want to work in the deli or the bakery . I have helped out in the bakery once and they are so nice and sweet and only 3 people work back there. So i was looking forward to trying to maybe switch to bakery if possible...
Kill someone in an outlying department. Hide the body well, then apply for the open spot. Some of those departments have geezers back there with huge seniority so usually it's the only way.
Or, you could talk to a co-manager instead of bitching about it. Your choice.

Have you talked to the manager of the bakery department? Ask them if they have an opening for you. If so, it should be pretty easy to switch. It's always easier to go to a different department vs. leaving a department.
Unless it's a really tiny store, 3 people in the bakery is insane. I live in a small town, we're the only Kroger in the county, and there's 7 people in my bakery. They could probably use the extra help really!
I would love to get off the front end too. But from what I understand, the perimeter departments (deli, bakery, meat/seafood) are under a different. They said I would have to quit and get rehired, thus losing what little seniority I have (tomorrow is my 1 year anniversary with Kroger). I would love to work in the Deli and work with food, but I guess it's not to be.
Oh well, I'm in bookkeeping now so I work mainly in the mornings, which isn't too bad.

That's not right. Who is this "They" that keeps telling you this? In some areas, meat department is under a different contract from the rest of the store but it's still part of the Kroger company.

Oh well I believe that's just the contract you must be under, since that's definitely not the case under my contract.
To the best of my knowledge, you can transfer to another department if they want or need you. We've certainly taken in employees from other departments...front end, drug gm, grocery. We've let other employees go to other departments as well.
