someone fill me in, ok so the computer generates the schedule for them? how would that work? what will that do to those who have a fairly set schedule? I just cannot see how this is a good thing. Will it spread out night shifts or what? Is it true that it remembers what days you've requested off and stops you from doing it again?
When the schedule writer runs the schedule it will automatically generate a schedule based on availability, approved time off, vacations, etc. Just like anything else it is not perfect. Not even close. It really just does what it wants in there as far as scheduling people. If people have a set schedule then the schedule writer needs to lock their schedule in.
It can't be explained fully in a post. We took a half day class and did a ton of CBT's on it. Most people writing the schedules don't understand it.
And even in the computer training, it mentions that the schedule can still be changed after it is written, which is why the wall schedule is still the standard, in that case. The e-schedule just makes it easier to review your schedule from your home computer, from a computer at work, or phone, and lets you request time off (Paid Days, Days Without Pay, Vacations, etc.), list availability times, etc. Getting those days off, though, is still up to the schedule writer, but you can log in to see if they have been approved yet. Supposedly, it's just an easier way to check your schedule, without bothering people who have no time to look up your hours, or give you the right hours. It eliminates mistakes, makes up for any missed post-it notes that a manager might have missed, etc., and is more efficient, but it's not a perfect system. Like anything else, right? Once you figure it out, though, it doesn't seem that complicated. But, like I said, everything is still subject to manager approval, and it's not set in stone. Any issues will still have to be brought to the attention of the schedule writer.

The schedule for the largest dept in the store (front end) is already mostly or wholly computer-generated. myeschedule is just replacing sked. It has a lot of new features aka bugs.

Ah, those aren't bugs....they are opportunities for creative lateral thinking.
Our Front End Mgr. "sorry this is what the computer says so suck it up buttercup"" sorry can't change it"
Ex. Our reg 6a-2:30p was scheduled a 3:30p to midnight .
The e-sched likes 6 hour shifts so if you're FT but 3 or 4 down senority-wise you'll get shafted by it to working til 11p or midnight shifts since that's the 3rd or 4th available 8 hr. shift of that day...while people w/ less senority are working "normal hours" but only 6 or so hours so you work crap hours to maintain FT status or drop to PT to have a life.
In our area one WHOLE STORE has a grievance filed w/ the union for this nightmare.
One of my coworkers, who is FT and who usually works 5-1, 8-4, or 10-6, flipped the hell out when she got scheduled 2-10 (to be fair, someone under her in seniority was being scheduled 8-4).... no one likes it here.
And yes it loves scheduling weird shifts. I have a 2 8 hour shifts, a 5 hour shift, a 4 hour shift, and a 7 hour shift this week for a total of 32 hours.
"In our area one WHOLE STORE has a grievance filed w/ the union for this nightmare" Hmmmmmm....good idea. Wish 3 of our best workers hadn't already quit over this stupidity. I did love the question on the survey about Kroger and our personal lives. I wish upper Magmt. checked this board because here is my response "no you don't give a damn about your working slaves and you show that by mico managing to the point of letting a computer schedule our lives. You for get one thing every employee you screw over is also a customer. So from now on I'm voting about how you treat us with the money (little) you pay by spending it with your competition"

the coworker who usually got early shifts, how much seniority does she have? (how long has she worked there?) I get so sick and tired of 5 year people claiming they've been there a long time. I'd love to transfer and bump people who think they're high when they really aren't!

the 7 hour shift, I will never understand that...that is the dumbest thing ever. Every time I see that shift for a pharmacy or a Front end clerk, I want to ask the dept manager "wtf is wrong with you?" 7 hour shift, smh
I request a lot of days some months... If I ask for them as unpaid days, will I not get my 40 hours? I don't want to burn up my ph days early in the year.

And then the FE dept head will reply "The computer scheduled it, not me." and then they walk away because there is no comeback.

About 2 years? But to be fair the person who got the shift better than hers has only been there like 6 months.
FE Dept. Head here. E sked really has made scheduling easier. I love it! And as it goes for Full time shifts. All my full timers (including me) work 2 nights a week. This is retail people, can't work early everyday. I'm new to my store and people freaked out about the 2 night rule (till at least 9p) but they got over it :).
It may work on the front end where everybody's job is pretty much the same, but in won't work in other departments where people have specilaized jobs. In the deli/bakery there are two people who do all the bread baking. There's one full time cake decorator. Others are mainly responsible for frying chicken and preparing food for the steam table. There's two people who mainly work in the cheese shop and Grab and Go section. The ones who are left, work the counter. With them, certain ones can only work in the morning while others can only work in the afternoon. I can just see e-schedule scheduling a chicken person in the bakery and expect them to know how to decorate cakes.
It sucks! I'm the 3rd FT in seniority and I get all the mid to late shifts!! everyone above me get all early shifts and one mid or late shifts ! We now open at 8 instead of 7 in meat! It's good if your the 1st or 2nd FTer but every one else is stuck working the most gruesome work hours imaginable!!!!! And I used to get all early shifts .
ive heard that store 684 has 150 pending griveances the first week they rolled out e schedule. Way to go kroger i hope every store does this to show how good of a program they have rolled out.

so someone with only 2 years experience was bitching about working later shifts? I worked mostly 330-midnight shifts the first 3-4 years I was with Kroger. Boohoo
How does esched work for those people with specific jobs within their dept? For ex. in grocery, we have a guy that strictly does DSD, one guy who does bread, one who conditions, and one that runs the KMP truck. Besides the Dept head and backup, all of these tasks are done by employees below the "3rd in line" guy. Does esched still allow for those "set" jobs/times? What I'm getting at is, will this guy (3rd on the seniority list who typically works early to mid shifts) be taking one of the other people's jobs (DSD, condiitoning, bread, kmp-----all early morning jobs in my store)

My understanding (and from what very little I've seen this may very well be true) is that many of those things will be done correctly if the system is set up right initially and on a weekly basis. In fact, I would imagine that many of the scheduling issues so many stores are having come from not setting the software up properly initially. I get this feeling because my district trainer (a quick learner) spent 2 entire days setting things up at my store and still hadn't finished.
