i was told in order to move to another dept. i have to write a letter and make three copies, one for myself, the union & store manager (yes, i am in the union -will be at the store for a yr in a few months). is this true? and is it true that the pharmacy is non-union?

If you are moving to another department in-store, all you have to do is talk to that dept head and yours and let them work it out. If you are moving to fuel, it's pretty much the same, but there's a tiny bit more involved on their side.
However, moving to the pharmacy is different. They are non-union, therefore non-contract. Moving there is very different and probably does involve what you described.
Moving from a union position into the pharmacy doesn't require those letters. When I went into the pharmacy all I did was call the union and tell them that I had changed to a non-union position on XX date and needed to stop getting union dues taken out. They are SUPPOSED to reimburse you because it does take a few pay cycles, but they did not in my case. Whatever, $16 wasn't going to kill me and nagging them wasn't on my priority list.
Moving to that dept was no different than moving to another department. Other than the fact that my pay is much higher than it would have been working out in the store.
i have been at my store almost a year now, few months to go, joined the union after my ninety days (a mistake i think, as i pay and get nothing i am interested in, better shift times, etc.). i can never get a straight story on anything regarding policies of the store and how to advance with a union present. i've heard different things from different people on how to go about it. i am good at my job and i fear they will not want me to leave my area. but i do not like the way things go, the no and low seniority folks seem to do the brunt of the workload, and get the crappiest shifts. i know that all may not change in the pharmacy, but at least i won't be paying to allow it. by the way, how do i view a copy of our union contract? can it be found online?
