CAO, minimums question

-I've noticed when I'm going over the order on my aisles that sometimes a product has a balance that is below the set minimum, but CAO still isn't bringing it in, and I'll have to order it myself. Anyone got any ideas why that's happening?

Check to make sure the Status is Active (A). If it is inactive (I) CAO will not order it. 

Also, while on the screen for that item, hit F9 and scroll down to I believe the second to last item on the bottom right. Check to see if that value is an R or N. R is for Replacement. It should be N unless you don't want  CAO to recognize it as being on forecast.

 I was told that if the product has not been ordered in the last 30 days by the computer, you have to manually order it to get it started again.  This was before we went to "Order review".  That is why it is important to be familiar with what the shelf normally looks like.  If I run the same aisle over and over, I can usually tell when the BOH is off(over and under).  When I am scanning my daily backstock, I will check those BOHs.

Control O shows when it was last ordered within the last 30 days.

I replied with manually ordering it to get it started again.

 I have never read what all the functions are on the CAO and do not know where to find them.  I usually learn by word of mouth.  I am curious how to tell what the sales were.  I know in one screen, it will show 1day, 7day, 30day sales.  But, when I am doing the order review, I do not see those numbers.  What function would I use to see that while ordering?

Are you saying their is a way to turn the forecasting off on a certain product?  I have been wanting a toggle to do that for the last 4 years!

(This only applies if you use the same handhelds we do) Notice the button in either corner directly under the screen. Each has a dot on it; I believe one is red and the other is green. If you hit one of these while you are logged into the handheld, it will start an additional instance of the software, allowing you to be logged into multiple systems on the handheld simultaneously. You use those buttons to switch windows. That way you can be in order review on one screen and in item maint in the other screen.

also check your allocation. The CAO formula somehow forecasts a certain number so if you have for example

BOH 30
Min 5
Case: 15
Allocation - 25
Forecast 40

It should send I believe 1 case on order if i'm correct.

 Yes, we have same handhelds.  It is the colored button next to the control button on the left.  I will log in a 2nd channel so after I process my order review and have to check 30 errors because some bonehead zero'd everything out and now 30 items are showing negative.  I like to see who is changing all the BOHs to 0 instead of replenishing from backstock carts.  Usually it is my day manager!!no

 I don't remember seeing a forecast on the CAO handheld.  I think I have seen it on the computer screen tho.  Normally, when I do the order review, I do not have enough time to look it over first.  But, I do want to get into the practice of checking the order closely before I do the order review.

Several things to check, make sure item is not scratched with the CTRL O screen. If it is you only need to make sure that BOH is correct so if it becomes a shelf out that is not counted toward your scorecard. Second, if the item sold down below mins during open order, but before the final computer generated order review, usually about 45 minutes before order close, it will not order the item auto but catch on the final order review. Also if your min is set to 2 or below, it will be on replacement order not on forecasting.

If you toggle function nine and look at this screen you can also see the BDS(Balance day supply) and the MDS(min day supply), the BDS number tells you that with your current BOH and past 30 days of sales how many days you have until it sells to 0. The MDS tells you based on you last 30 days of sales, how many days your mins are set. Usually this should be set to what the forcast for your orders are, this is on your order detail report for that catalog on the top of the page. Now some items have more shelf facings than others so you want to set mins to account for this factor.

Lots to learn and keep asking questions, if you know some one in your store that is really good at CAO and you can get with them it would help you. Also check out the computer learning programs for CAO basics and ordering.

 You're right the forecast is on the order screen. I would suggest editing your order first before doing the order review.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try to check this stuff out.

I feel like instead of ordering my aisle, most of the time I'm just fixing whatever COA is, or isn't, doing. When I stay on top of it I get my back stock down to a few boxes per buggy and my shelves are as full as they can be. If I let it go it turns into chaos within a couple of weeks -Backstockageddon, holes errywerr. What's the point of computers if they're just making the job more complicated than it needs to be? We're not trying to put a man on mars here forfuksake.

You can also pull up your order report by going to CAO >> Reports >> Order Reports >> Item Details
