I understand it's probably different in each contract. But say at 5 years you became vested for pension benifits and decided to quit about how much (reasonable estimate) would you be eligible to receive when your payments came in wayy down the road? And about how much if you put in 20-25 years?
Not nearly enough. To give you an idea...I've spent over 22 years there, but only 14 years were full time. I will receive the princely sum of $240.00 a month for that. If I were to stay until 65 I would only get $500.00 a month.
Meh that seems pretty pathetic.. I figured it would be something like that.. Im assuming contracts for that went downhill in my area as well some guy retired with 30+ years last year and is getting something like 1500 a month. Ive also heard something like if your a union member they match the employer contributions to your pension once your vested.
No matter how long I stayed it wouldn't be worth it. I could never reap what others hired in the good old days get. Two old timers recently left and one says he does better retired than when he was working. Those contracts are history.
