Want to ask your opinion!

Today I called in to work three hours ahead of time because my dad is in the hospital after having a quadruple bypass operation.  I was off the day of and the day after the surgery but today he was having some minor problems so I called in.  The bitch of a co-manager I had to talk to told me I needed to try and come in for some of my shift.  When I had to talk to her to call in for a severe ear infection a couple weeks ago she said I should lay down awhile and try to come in.

Well what I want to ask is, should I tell this bitch off, go over her head and complain to someone or what?  I don't care about her trying to play doctor when it was me sick, but my dad is in a life and death situation here and if decisions need to be made I'm the one who would have to make them if my dad couldn't.  I feel this co-manager has no right to tell me what she did.  I called in more than enough time, as far as I'm concerned it's her responsibility to replace me!

I would not make a scene out of it unless you get written up.  The, go thru the union.

PH days are just that.  So you can call in sick or for emergencies.   I would consider this an emergency for you but not sure how management views it.

I would not get all riled up about it and just let it go.

For us, we need to come in for atleast 4 hours or it is counted as a no call, no show.  Or, call in an hour before the shift starts.

I hope your dad gets well.

Best thing to do is calmly repeat yourself, as if talking to a child, one or two times, thank her for her attention.....Then hang up. You're not asking permission, and the longer you stay on the line or debate with her, the more she can power-play it as if you are.

Exactly. OP isn't calling to say please, they were calling to notify mgmt of what was going to happen.
