Coffee shop clerk? If you're working in a Starbucks inside Kroger, STAY THERE. You can use that as part of experience working and you'll be able to get hired in other starbucks places.
Anyway, I work in Dairy. I have to say, it's an ok (if not semi-easy) job. Unlike other departments, we don't have to do any "closing" procedures (cleaning, inventory, prep, etc) other than making sure the eggs and milk are filled before you leave. Other than that, it's just waiting for the dairy truck to come in every other day and stuck the things they deliver. Also, there's a lot less ground to cover since every dairy product is lined along a single wall.
Here's the cons though, imo:
-yogurt: plenty of pallets contain busted up yogurt that have spilled all over the load. It's quite a dirty task to clean up the ones worth salvaging, so I suggest you wear gloves (like the ones that deli/bakery clerks use) when you stock.
-being called up to bag/carts: you'll be doing these plenty since they like to call on dairy to supplement the fledgling number of courtesy/utility clerks.
-being asked by customers about anything in the store: you work only in dairy, yet people ask you where the class-3 super spicy marinara spice mix is. And they get pissed at you if you don't know.
-dealing with constant change temp: you'll be going for near-freezing coolers to 90°F backrooms and the normal temp store very often. Of course, you're allowed to bring your own jacket.
Though other than the cons, there's nothing much other than just stock stuff from the cooler. It's even easier than Grocery, since they have to cover more areas and haul more crap around.
if you do decide to work in dairy be careful when stocking milk. if you're not super careful and use less than 3 fingers when handling milk jugs there is a chance you'll get carpal tunnel in your hands.
Everything else is fairly easy.

TRUE FRICKIN' STORY! I spent one night just restocking milk and eggs, didn't get any of my work done that needed to be done. Sour cream, cottage cheese and dips were on sale too. BAD DAY.
stay away from the dairy at all costs! then again, the people who work there in your store may not be lazy, so maybe give it a go, but only if you know for sure it a good area. but, also think of your seniority. if you have less than anyone over there or all of them, you will be made to work the evening shifts.
