The turnover is getting crazy now

This is getting insane.

In the last few months, we have had THREE people in our department get fired or quit.

First person got "sick" and said she was leaving because she had to help with a truck.

Second person got fired because she had a piss poor attitude about everything in life.

Third person apparently had a freakout tonight after working there a week and is switching departments.

Every time someone gets fired, it falls upon me (as well as a couple others) as one of the only competent people working the closing shifts. I barely get 1 break in some nights as I try my hardest to get MY job done while all these other people play their games. The first two people I didn't get along with, no one did really, but, the third is a really nice lady but I don't know what happened.

I don't even want to train anymore people because every time I do, this happens. I've worked here for almost 2 years and there's only one person who is below me in seniority who actually sticks with it.

I'm sure this is like old news to everyone. It's probably like that in every department. But I am just fuming right now -_-

That sucks. What department do you work?  I have to say that I haven't seen any turnover yet....and I've been in the deli since April of this year.  It's still a nutty place to work though.

I'm in the bakery. And apparently they're seeing if she can stick with it for another week and if not then she'll go to another department.

turnover rate is 40% at our michigan store

Yes, lets put thousands of dollars of training into hiring new people only to quit in a few weeks. Bravo!

Lol, same thing was happening at our store but honestly, for 7.50 an hour, they are lucky people didnt burn the place down when they left. They expect so much yet pay so little its rediculous. I'm lucky to have been here long enough to top out on pay but ya, they REALLY need to pay more. I have a second part time job with a merchandising company, with WAY less work i might add for something like 13.50/hr compared to Krogers' 9.50/hr and ****ty attitude. If a small merchandising company can pay me that much for sittin on ass then Kroger sure as HELL can afford to pay me ATLEAST that much for busting my ass!

If pretty much all American companies have their way, we will become a nation of temp jobs. I'm seeing more evidence of this every year.

What this obvious disaster will create for the American worker, their families and the national economy is absolutely of NO concern to these companies. We are on a global scale now, competing against third world countries, and this nation as we knew it is a figment of the past. Our government is occupied, bought and paid for by the One Percenters. People who are worth literally the G.N.P. of entire countries. Numbers we can't even fathom.

While there is hope, of course---remain competitive, get an education of some viable sort, move to where the work is, blah-de-blah----------These problems are compounded by a growing lassitude towards basic education, work ethic, and general 'I give a $hit-ness'. We all see this, all the time.

What I see coming will make the Tea Party people look like Mormons. It will make the Wall Street Occupiers look like Girl Scouts. If temporary, part time/minimum wage jobs with absolutely NO perks, and no breathing room to even take on that second or even third job, just to get by, are all this once fine nation have to offer, OF COURSE people are going to go crazy.

Like global warming, these economic changes are coming so fast that things are almost impossible to predict over even the next 2--4 years.

Yeah yeah, I know....I'm a fu--in' ray of sunshine.

Basic trades: Welding, H-VAC, trucking. I cannot encourage things like these strongly enough.

Which is why people need to strengthen unions once again to empower themselves to have better negotiations and contracts.  I've always told them that they should attend their meetings and address issues often like I do. Its sad that i'm 1 of 12,000 members, yet i'm the only one who attends the meeting every month fighting for what I believe is right. The union isn't just a "union" its has a voice, but falls on deaf ears if the members aren't willing to participate, but only want to use the union at their discretion when they need them.  The concept of corporate america will eventually be a failure as you're thinning out your workforce and failing to provide proper and professional individuals. In the end with the revolving door these companies are wanting will cause a shortage of qualified workers. I mean honestly consider this from  the following in working in a meat department:

Experienced VS New Hire

Experience will:

- Check thoroughly for out of dates and catch markdowns for quick sale

- Cut to meet the demands of business

- Provides excellent customer services in most cases

- Less likely to call out unless actually sick

- Less shrink in terms of trimming and presentation.

- Fast wrapper and cutting

- Cares about the organization of meat cooler and makes sure its following company standards.

- Working to hit sales goals and give the customers what they want.

I'm coming to agree with you more, Meat Cutter. Something 's gotta give. This problem won't just go away.

It's funny how when Bush had his "jobless recovery" it was denounced because many of the jobs were low wage, part time.  Now that "hope and change" actively encourages low wage, part time through the healthcare plan no one on that side of the aisle, the party of the working man, gives a damn.

You make fun of 7.40/hr but it takes a full year of service to get there in the ATL division.  It takes years and years to hit $8 even for full time.  I imagine other contracts will catch up with rock-bottom local 1996's at some point.  And yes, dues just went up.

I make 8.10 an hour in Dayton/Cincy and I don't complain about the pay. It's not great but it could be worse. Granted I don't have many bills to pay but people know what they're getting offered when they apply so I'm getting tired of this attitude from everyone.

And this was 3 people in a wide age range from about 20-55.

I agree with this, but, I don't agree with it at the same time. A lot of people aren't left with much of a choice, and Kroger needs people to do the work. There's too much corporate greed.

Actually, i find that people are severely overwhelmed, for what they make, when they begin working at Kroger. The computer training isn't nearly enough to prepare someone for actually working on the floor. You need someone to take you under their wing and show you the ropes or your just set up to fail.
