days off with eschedule
Permalink

If 3 people within a dept all request the same day off, will eschedule automatically make the one with least seniority work that day?  We've had days with 3 people off and our dept manager works it out by moving people around and having decent coverage, but will eschedule let this happen?  I'm afraid that I'm going to request a day off with a coworker (possibly months in advance) so we can do something together and be forced to work by someone at the last minute who happens to have more seniority simply "because they can".  Back in the day, it had a lot to do with WHEN you put in for time off.  If I put in for a day a couple months in advance, then someone with more seniority puts in for a day the week before the requested day, that senior person might not get it because I had put in for it long ago (which makes sense -- you can't just up and decide to take a day off when someone else had plans...this whole eschedule seems like a way to screw people out of time off.  While there will no longer be notes floating around on a desk that might get lost,  perhaps a dept head could see that I asked for a specific day (well in advance) and tell others about it who might then ask off for the same day(s) just to screw me out of my request

The schedule writer decides. Normally, according to most contacts, it goes by seniority for who would get the day off.

good.  i've discussed this with him and told him I have plans months out.  Usually he's cool about it and we shouldn't be worried about someone coming in last minute.  If we get scheduled it would put me out $300 for the tickets I've bought, so I'd just call in, what's the worst they could do?
