take your money and run... this it what the union stands for now. union in bed with Kroger with this new "what ever is best for Kroger". Kroger and union says this all the time now... so Kroger can do what ever it wants and to hell with us.
From my experience here in Michigan, it's not just "the union" that's the problem, it's the full-timers. They tend to have a chip on their shoulders and don't really care about how certain provisions that affect the part-time workers negatively. Also, it doesn't help that the part-timers that do vote all act like sheep.
I'm full time and hate what they have done to the part time people so save the bs... no chip here just with greed and stupidity
I had a great union steward (full-time) who would vote down every new contract. Unfortunately, he was the minority.
I'm not saying all full-timers have chips on their shoulders or all of em' don't care about the part-timers, just that I hear a lot of them saying how much they care about the part-timers then go and vote for things that are obviously to their detriment. Actions speak louder than words.
The union has to be carefull. They can't ask for too much money then the company will be out of business. then you'll be out a job. Look at what happend with the uaw/gm. krogers benefits are good (better than most) and cost the company a boatload of money. Most of the company's money after overhead goes to paying this and the money in your pocket.
The full timers are fat and happy because their old contracts aren't completely horrifying.
And the part timers can't afford to work for Kroger very long, so it doesn't matter what they do.
This is very true, which makes me laugh at certain full-time posters here who say stuff like "if you don't like it, change it!"
It's a lot easier to say something like that when you're actually receiving better benefits/pay and/or under an older contract.
I also agree that part-timers COULD be the majority voice, but, part-timers tend to leave the company very quickly, then they get recycled out for another employee the company couldn't care less about.
But hey, I could actually ignore the hypocrisy of a lot of the full-timers if they were like my past union steward and backed up their words with actual action. Instead, what I hear is the full-timers either saying how much they pity part-timers or say that full-timers earned what they're getting simply by working there a long time, but this does not back up what they're actually doing when they vote in these new contracts.
So, the next time a full-timer starts acting like they care, ask them if they voted yes on the last contract and why they did. You might be surprised how, like I just said, actions speak louder than words.
