I QUIT

DEAR KROGERS, I QUIT! I thought working at your establishment would be fun but it wasn't. All of years of working, your establishment is the first job that I have worked at that only give their employers one break. I worked 8hrs and  was only given one 30 min break. The few months I have worked there you have never gotten my check straight. You manage to cheat me out of 3 or 4 hours every pay period. After working 5 hours with no break and a busy store, I had a few minutes when there was hardly no one in the store. Well, I told to start dusting shelves. You don't pay me enough to dust shelves. Hell, I pay someone to clean my house. With all that being said, I quit and good riddance.

You have the money to pay someone to clean your house, but you're working at Kroger? What?

In some contracts you can get an hour lunch if you do eight hours but I've never been able to do it.  I don't always get my 30 even when doing nine hours.  Union doesn't care.  "Needs of the business" is all you get.

The break is supposed to be uninterrupted but I get called for help.

I feel like I'm expected to sacrifice like a salaried employee when I am not.

Needs of the business or not, I take my breaks. I have decided they CAN and WILL do without me on my breaks

Yep. Take your breaks, and "don't hear" when they call you.

AND...on your days off, they CAN and WILL do without you. Right? Otherwise, you would be working 7 days a week EVERY WEEK with NO days off, not even for Christmas and they'd probably like that, too!!! Come on now, when is enough ENOUGH???

They don't pay you enough to dust shelves? Huh? How much are you expecting to get paid for dusting shelves? More than cashiers? Do you think dusting shelves is harder and takes more training than cashiering?

And based on your post, you sound like an entitled snob too. Just pointing that out there. Kroger is probably better off without you.

To the person that said I sound like a snob, I am not a snob. I think that working 6 days a week just to get 24hrs is stupid. As far as dusting shelves, that wasn't on the memo when I was hired. It's not ok for them to work us for 5 or 6 hrs with no break and when we get a moment to calm down and breath they tell us to dust.BTW, I work 2 jobs. Krogers only made me appreciate my employers at my main job.

You might want to reread your post... if you ran a business and paid employees hourly I'd bet that you'd expect and demand that they work constantly when on the clock. If you consider having to dust the shelves a cruel and unusual request then the retail business is definitely not for you. One thing you need to realize is that work is work and even though it may not be something you like doing- simple requests like helping clean your work environment are not over and beyond your job description. If you truly think otherwise then you are one spoiled malcontent. Like the one person stated- if you're too lazy to dust your own house then you need to QUIT KROGER'S asap and take your pampered butt on down the road..believe me you won't be missed. Oh and a big BooHoo... you had to work over 5 hours without a break/ lunch...maybe you should write your congressman about this slave torture activity.

Thank you for the compliment, yes I am spoiled and pampered. I've worked very hard over the years to get what I want. So, if you are offended because I said that I have housekeeping than so be it. I hated working  there so I have solved my problem. I am not trying to argue with grown people about that job. My experience is mine. You can not tell me how I should feel. If you worked on a job making minimum $3000/mon, get 3 wks vacation, sick time, holiday pay and get 2 15min breaks and a lunch break all in one day  and then came to a job where you stand up, work harder and barely bring home $100 you would feel the same way. I am not trying to knock anyone for doing what they have to do to feed their families. If I had to flip burgers to feed my family, I would do it. I just think that they should pay more hourly for all the work that they require. That's all.

LOL Cry baby.  The contract says any time after an hour and right until last second end we can give breaks.

I had one cashier TELL ME it was her break time the other day.  Excuse me?  Who is running this front end?  And what happened when I was overruled by the *@#$ dept head?  We had customers backed to Siberia and it went all to hell.

Kroger is a very very bad company to work for. My first week, I completed the computer training and asked the assistant manager when I should come back (it was a Friday). The manager wasn't there so the assistant manager told me to come back the following Monday. As I was leaving church on Sunday I received a phone call from the store manager telling me that I was due to work at 10am (no the schedule was not posted). I tried to explain to her that the assistant manager told me to come back on Monday. She didn't care. After that I noticed and pointed out to them that I was not being paid for the hours I had worked, which probably pissed them off even more. In addition to that, when working a six hour shift your allowed a 15 min break. My breaks didn't come until about 30 min before I was due to get off. AND, if I needed to use the restroom between that time (and I let the manager know), they would call my name over the loud speaker stating I needed to get back on my register. Needless to say, this Kroger has lost a lot of business. My family and friends have been in this area for 30+ years and were loyal, but not anymore.
