Stealing is the worst thing you can do to an employer especially in retail. Even though many slackers steal time from Kroger all the time.
Was it a can of soup or soup they were throwing out from the deli?
What position did you have? How long have you been there? Don't give too many details about yourself.
I know a girl that was fired from Meijers for stealing cotton balls. She was led out in handcuffs.
Suspending you might be the easiest way to get you out of the building. Leading to being terminated from employment.
It might be better to find a new job and move on.
You could try getting your job back thru the union grievance process. Not sure what kind of excuse you can use. If you were suspended for a few days and are on the next schedule, then stay under the radar and never steal again.
I had my orientation today and watched a few videos about Employee theft. It is a big deal. Supposedly 80% of everyone caught is prosecuted for Felony Theft. Definitely not worth a can of soup or even a pack of gum.
EVEN taking food that is going to be disposed of at the end of the day is "theft." Plus I'm not sure you want to take food that's going to be tossed out...

I would, because they're good for at least one or two more days. And that's just the food that's prepped daily.
And I'm not someone who's "desperate". I'm doing quite well right now. I just had the time to find factual information about these "sell by" or "best by" dates.
There was an employee once that was caught "stealing" soup that was about to be thrown out anyway. She lost her job, which wasn't really fair, but anyway. I would try and find another job and consider this one done. Depending on the circumstances, you might be able to get them to agree to not put that incident on your record.
i dont want to know if u did it or are just being accused of it u provided no real info all i can say is make them provide proof ( if they suspended u im sure they caught u ) but most managers ive had the pleasure of dealing with think they are the rules
and that what they say goes and has no real concept of our contract so make them provide proof. if u really did do it look for another job cause u deserve to be term for stealing
