So confused and aggrivated

I had an interview at a Kroger on Oct. 30th. The manager said I would be working in the meat department and said I was hired. But she said I wouldn't get a call for my first day for a week or so until my drug test and background check came back. One week later I hadn't heard anything so I call and the woman says she would call me back later that day for orientation. Big surprise, she never did. Now, another week later, I decided to give another call. I was bounced around between people barely able to get a single word out for around an hour. This time they said they just had a job fair and were behind because they just hired a bunch of people. I don't think this should affect my employment as I interviewed weeks ago but whatever. I was then told that the hiring manager was busy and would find my paperwork and call me later today. Call me skeptical but I highly doubt she actually will. I'm so mad. I turned down other interviews because they had me believe I was hired there. Long question short, what should I do?

Wait it out. If she doesn't call you this time, keep searching.

Or.... If you want, bug them like crazy. They may get mad, but then hopefully they'll realize IF they are smart you are serious about this job. That's IF they are smart

Try also sending a "Thank You" note to the interviewer. It will make you stand out more and might be the edge you need to secure the job.

They finally called me for orientation tomorrow at 10 a.m. Can anyone tell me what orientation is like? Do I get a schedule? A uniform?

First of all, orientation is boring. You will not get your schedule for your dept because you have to do one worse thing than going through orientation. You have to do your CBT's, which is a fancy acronym for computer based training. It sucks. Orientation is boring, CBT's suck. But they are necessary because they will teach you a lot of things you should be taught on the floor, but are not because everyone is running their asses off. You will be fine. Soon, you too will be running your collective ass off and living the dream.

Welcome to Kroger.

<some of this is said very much tongue in cheek, however, I unlike many others, actually do love my job, and the company I work for. But CBT's really do suck>

Okay. Just so I'm clear, orientation means I'm hired for sure right? Thanks for all the replies.

After your orientation which you'll sign all kinds of paperwork and are informed of stuff which, in turn, labels you as employed.

To be honest, and depending on your store/management, you'd be so much better elsewhere.

Amen to this, welcome to hell and be prepared for ungrateful management while you make close to minimum wage.
