So I just started at Kroger. Yesterday was my computer training day. I was told I would be there around 4 hours. I come in and am told to stay until 6. Since I came in at 10, that means 8 hours. I thought as long as I'm getting paid no biggie. However, no one mentions when to take break, how long break is and nothing about lunch. More specifically where do I put food that I bring in for lunch? Where do I eat lunch? I was also handed a hand written schedule for the rest of the week. Does this mean I shouldn't set up my eschedule until next week? Also, the finger scanner for punch in keeps saying "Ring restricted" when I punch in or out. Will this go away once I've been there a few days? I also was not told what day pay day is. Or if they offer direct deposit. Thanks in advance for any answers.

The reason your ring is always restricted is because you are not in the schedule. Any time you punch in and its not within 7 min before your scheduled time you will be restricted. And management sucks if your not vocal and remind them about break or ask they won't tell you.
Anyhow, I'll do my best answering with what info you gave. Breaks and lunches depend on the contract. Some contracts don't have lunches, so some people take one 30 minute break instead of a lunch. Typically you get two breaks for an 8 hour shift. If you get a lunch, you're at the store for 8 1/2 hours but that half hour is an unpaid lunch. Employees usually eat their lunches in the breakroom. Bring your food in with a bag and put it in the breakroom fridge with your name on it. Or, get a locker and put it there. If your schedule is hand written, that usually means it wasn't entered into the system so you have to get someone to override for you. I'd take care of your eschedule as soon as you could.
I did ask. I asked so many questions my first day and that's why I was worried to ask more. All they said was I get a 15 minute break 2 hours after I clock in. They didn't say if I can just take it or if I should find someone and let them know. They also said around 4 hours after I clock in I get lunch. But did not mention where to put it or where to eat it. Example: this week I am scheduled from 7 am to 1 pm. If I take lunch do I need to stay until 1:30 pm? They also did not mention what day my first paycheck comes. Just that the weeks end is Saturday. Does that mean I get paid Saturday? And they never mentioned if direct deposit was a choice either...

What department do you work in? That is such a lack of communication towards you. Lack of communication is normal at Kroger but your description is the worst I have heard.
When the time clock says "ring restricted", you need to ask someone at the customer service desk for an 'override". I think the punches are noted in the computer but whoever does payroll has to validate them later. Keep track of your hours until you have this taken care of. Your manager makes a schedule and then someone enters it into kronos. If it isn't entered into kronos, then you will be ring restricted.
You will need to ask your department manager about breaks and lunch. If you are a courtesy clerk, the service desk person will be in charge of you. They will let you know when to take a break or you need to let them know it is time for your break(about every 2 hours) I am not sure about a 7-1 shift. Normally, if you need to take a lunch, you will be scheduled from 7am-1:30pm but Eschedule is giving some people 5 1/2 shifts and they have to take a lunch so they are there from 7-1. You will have to ask someone in the store what the rules are for you.
Depending on your contract, if you work 8 hours, you are given two paid 15 minute breaks and an unpaid 30 minute lunch. Work 2 hours, break, work 2 hours, Lunch, work 2 hours, finish shift. If you are scheduled to work 6 hours, you get one paid 15 minute break and an unpaid 30 minute lunch from 7am-1:30pm. If you only work 4 hours, you are given one paid 15 minute break.
There should be a break room where you interviewed at near the office. There should be a break room with a refridgerator somewhere in the store! Make friends and ask someone to show you the break room.
I am embarrassed for your store that you had to go online and ask complete strangers on a site that is not affiliated with kroger about these simple questions. You didn't do anything wrong. I think someone in the store should be showing you the ropes without you having to ask.
Most stores insist on direct deposit. Payday is Thursday where I am located. I work Sunday thru Saturday and get paid for that week on the next Thursday. Direct Deposit lands in the bank after midnight on Thursday morning and paper checks are usually at the store by Friday. You might get a paper check until you get Direct Deposit set up. If you have a UEID(ZZ12345), you can usually peek at your check on Wednesday here: http://www.kroger.com/Pages/default.aspx
Keep track of your hours worked and play dumb when you mess up punches.. This site is not sponsored by kroger so do not post too much identifying info about yourself. Eschedule can be found at greatpeople.me
