my manager has a bottle of rum next to her desk and drinks at work... it literally sits right on the floor and she doesn't even try to hide it. She is all about doing things "by the book" and is constantly getting onto me for not following some rule..

Hell, can you blame her? Old, worn out gal in her 50's with no future just tryin to hang on until she can retire and still afford to live? I'd drink too!
If she's doing everything by the book then its because she was too lenient/nice at some point and they laid down the almighty Kroger Law and probably told her get everything right or out to the curb. I'm not sayin it's right but she may be to point of so stressed out trying to do her job that she's turned to drinkin. Some alcoholics are never really stumbling. stuttering, passed out drunks but they drink constantly all day just to keep a certain level in them. She may need help. You calling some company hired ethics line will only give them a good reason to fire her which is the cheap way out- they like that- rehabs expensive for them.
I think we should be allowed to have a beer during lunch. It could actually make us more productive.
In the same way that openly allowing cellphones on your person turned into a large problem with texting on the clock, people would end up clocking back in hammered as f&*k lol.
I used to drink before work and during lunch. i did this for about 8 months straight. ya it was all good at first then it got bad. i still was doin my jobjust fine, had a lot of responsibilities and they were getting done. then i went to rehab. Krogers health insurance paid 100% otherwise id had to pay 20,000+ for it. plus got paid medical leave so i was still gettin paid my 40 hours with top meat cutters pay every week i was in there. suggest this to her, krogers a very good company in this respect
