No one working at Kroger should make the wages they give. I wanted a part time position and worked 48 hours for a total of a whopping $258.00 The Bakery kicked my ass with a freezer full 10ft high. The sheer pain I felt from the brutal physical acts during the day was sooooo not worth the money.
Look at other retail stores and tell Kroger that they can not treat people like slaves for slave wages. Don't put up with the **** they dish out!!! You can find a retail job with better pay.
To be fair, our wages are this ridiculously low because of: 1. the wonderful "unions" negotiating them for the older people's benefit, 2. you're expendable.
No, really, we all are. They can always get "someone else" to do our job. Shoot, even now they're replacing that "someone" with an automated machine that can package meat or even shipping cakes that are already decorated to order.
Want better wages? Well, like what others will say, get a better job. Nothing wrong with this one, but don't let this hellhole be your career. You'll never get anything much out of it. Even my former grocery manager (who retired) said it's not worth staying in retail and "chasing ****".

Uh-oh. You're bound to get a lot of the people who post here on the site upset.
The mind set of some people here is that apparently, the unions are for everyone's benefit and the one's not benefiting as much as others only have themselves to blame. Coincidentally, the one's who believe this tend to be people who have been with the company a while. Also coincidentally, you won't hear about these people voting down new contracts or asking for the betterment of their fellow coworkers. Also coincidentally, you'll find many people here claim they care but then don't back it up with action.

Oh, I know that. I know many of them think it's for "everyone's" benefit.
Coincidentally, they're also the ones who say "If you don't like it, then vote down the new contracts."
Coincidentally, they're the ones who form the majority of people who vote FOR those contracts, so it's not like it'll upset them.
Why are they the ones who form the majority of people who vote for those contracts? Because the new hires can't afford to have the union sucking more money out of their paycheck without having to sell their bodies to the devil. So, why have to join a union who will keep churning out shoddy contracts and pay them when you can spend that money on stuff you need or pay for your education?
And so, coincidentally, those old people will say "Well, if you want more money, then vote against the new contracts."
And thus, this whole cyclical method of hypocrisy and (for lack of a better word) sh*tstorming continues...
Have I offended some people on here, eh, probably. Not that I don't care about them, but that's just how it is. They're looking to take care of THEIR benefits first. New hires be damned.

We occasionally get those pre-decorated cakes in. They don't look nearly half as good as the ones that are made in store. Also, some of them will have so much stuff on top that there's no room to write on them. I've had people ask me to write on cakes that have literally no more than a 3" x 4" flat space to write on. Do you know how hard it is to write, "Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad" with icing in a space that small?

Nah, not upset. I kind of understand where the OP is coming from and I can't sugar coat their situation.
I enjoy my job and am at the top of the game at top pay and a part time employee. It took 6 years to get there and no other retail company will match that payrate.
Best thing I've ever done is not have a union position. I make $4 more an hour than I did when I had a union position, I'm also full time. Legit full time, not PT w/FT benefits. The union isn't anything like what its cracked up to be

Yes, I do.... we have too many of those pre-decorated ones right now. I mean i'm not a cake decorator but I do have to write on them sometimes and I hate it when they're so small you can't even write on them properly :(
