You know, it doesn't really take that long to make sandwiches. Most people do it in the morning before we get a rush and they're done within an hour. If they make salads too, it might be an hour and a half. But then we have people who make it an all day affair. One woman just goes to the sandwich station and stays there for the entire day. I don't know what she does over there - she makes the same amount of sandwiches as everyone else and yet she maybe waits on counter once or twice. She tends to wander around when she's not making sandwiches. Her friend (a younger girl) is the same way, though she sometimes gets done within half a day and then goes to hang out with her buddies. Our assistant head of deli is in the deli the entire time and says nothing about this. In fact if they're working that day and someone starts attempting to do sandwiches, she'll tell us to let them do it.
Get out of the deli. It's the second most overstaffed, underworked dept. in the whole store behind the front end. If you work hard and want to be recognized for it, then I suggest moving to a smaller dept. like frozen foods or dairy.
I'm sick of people using cookies, small bits of paper, shiny things, randomly checking the schedule for the fifth time, staring into space, and a fascination with sweeping the floor, as excuses for not waiting on people in the deli.
