Has any employee been suspended or fired for using a blank card to give  customer who cant't get their own card or telephone number to work?

Why would they be? You're just giving them a new card. You'd only get fired if you used your own card or never gabe the person the new card. The reason? Statistics and fuel points.

It depends on what you do with the card after you scan it.  You can't keep it.

If you put it back in the drawer, that's very bad and you could get written up or worse.

It's real easy to rack up thousands of fuel points on that card if you just keep using it over and over, which will set off all kinds of red flags if it gets used.

Just put the new card in the customer's bag and you will be fine.

If they can't get out their card or don't remember the number ask a customer behind them to borrow their plus card

This seems like a dangerous move to me, even though I've seen cashiers do it. You're giving the company false consumer statistics and one person ends up getting a lot of fuel points, which Kroger hates to have happen.

I might cut a lot of corners but as a cashier this is one thing I cannot stand, it just brings the whole store down. There are several cashiers who get away with this with nothing ever said it's frustrating.  As by the book as my store's managers are it's shocking to me that they ignore this, there's a reason there are a pile of cards in cashier drawers and not to use one 'courtesy' card over and over again, it's a wonder why half my evening customers never have a card and always ask me for mine. This is probably something I'll bring up to my FES since it's been bothering me, speak up or forever hold your peace..I suggest everyone do the same at their stores it's just super annoying when my lines get slowed down cuz no one bothered to sign someone up for a FREE card like really?

Wouldn't the common sense thing for be if people don't have the card they don't get the discount?

I get we're supposed to make the customers happy but on all the items it says that is the price WITH CARD. Therefore, if you don't have the card, why should you get a discount WITH CARD? Then again this is customers i'm talking about, of course they don't have common sense.

We stopped using courtesy cards. Our store managers decision. The reason is that checkers have been "borrowing" the card to use the gas points. We have fired tons if people over it. What they DO NOT Realize is; cards like that are tracked. The guys we fired used te cards for their own use. Messes up sweepstakes and whatnot.

My store is not allowed to 'spot' a customer with a blank (or any other) card. It's all about the fuel points and the potential for abuse.

Just give the card to the customer, along with their purchases, and tell them that they can return the filled in application, anytime, to the customer service desk. We physically can't MAKE them sign up for it, but management wants to see that we are at least making the effort to get them to do so.
