Hmm... I thought it's standard for Kroger to be closed on Christmas day, at least that's how it is for my store.
We close early (8PM) on the 24th, closed for the 25th, and resume normal operations on the 26th.
Right. But I never have the 24th and 26th off. ever. 25th is my holiday pay. Other than that, I have always worked 6 days a week. I am usually there at 11:58pm on the 25th to unlock the doors to let the crew in and put the frozen bakery rack in the refridgerator.

We used to put our frozen dough in the freezer on Christmas Eve and then have someone move it to the retarder on Christmas Day. We discovered that the dough is perfectly fine if we put it directly into the retarder and leave it until the day after Christmas. The door stays shut and the temperature is cold enough that it's not going to start proofing before we get around to baking it. In fact, on normal days the dough is still partially frozen when we go to use it the next day. If it were summer however, and the store was going to be closed for a day, we would definitely put the dough in the freezer first and have someone move it to the retarder the next day when the store was closed. In the wintertime you can skip that part.
we have an awful lot of people off. considering we don't have people to work now because of quits and lack of hiring, i can't imagine how it's going to work out.
shockingly we even have people on vacation next week.
