Rumors/tall tales

How many of you guys have a problem with rumors/tall tales? At our store we are the "champions" of such. Case in point: my brother was suspended for something stupid of his own doing (which I will not say) and all sorts of different rumors got spread when they heard that he got suspended. By the time he got back not only could he "fly" he was a wanted fugitive from the police, he also was an "illegal immigrant" DESPITE him being born and raised in the USA. I swear... The people we hire have questionable intelligence...and I'm NOT talking about new hires. I am talking about the SEASONED ones that have been there a while.   disbelief

Well.. it's Kroger, after all.  ;)

In my department, we have an older lady that has worked there for 30 years or something like that.  One day, there was a small gathering of us all in earshot of each other working when this lady's name entered conversation.  Someone asked if she was married, and if anyone knew, and for how long etc etc... Nothing important, just passing time.

Being the little a$$hole that I am, I chimed in rather matter-of-factually, "Well, you know she killed her first husband, right?"

Audible "gasps" could be heard followed by "Really!?"  Lol... I said "Yeah!  You never knew that?  She did time and everything."

Of course, I let them off the hook, and told them I was just making that up, but people will believe anything if you tell the tale convincingly enough.

Management is worst then the employees when it comes to spreading rumors/tall tales, when it has to do with employees who have been suspended, terminated or forced to quit. They will spread lies and exgaggerate what really happened to cover their butts. Seen it happened first hand....

would this be considered a rumor?  "So and so got his/her job by sucking dick."  It could very well be true...

Careful. At my store if you said they got their job by sucking dick, by the time word got around the person would have very well gone through a sex change operation, or be born without the correct genitalia. I'm serious. My store is crazy like that...
