Bad Weather Call-Offs
Permalink

I don't know what Kroger's policy is on this, but at Wa-Fart we've been instructed to NOT APPROVE ANY call-offs due to weather....No matter how severe, even if a county-wide emergency has been declared and for people to stay home, on threat of being arrested. Yes, this is bull $hit but, yes, I unfortunately have to abide by it.

So: I'll recommend something to you. Just call off sick. For us, it's an automatic approval.

I don't know if any of this applies to Kroger or if my words help if it does apply.....But it's something to keep in mind. Just because you're not foolish enough to risk your life for retail does not mean you deserve to be punished for it.

Management is expecting a lot of call offs tomorrow, and from what they said, they're not too bent out of shape about it. Unfortunately, my county doesn't have county-wide emergency closings/levels, nor does the county south of me.

For those who do go in, I hope you all will be careful and drive smartly.

Same here, and I'm hoping no one gets hurt driving in! Call off if you need to as mentioned if you feel the roads are just too bad.

our store likes to send people out to get those who call in due to the weather.  "you can't make it?  we can come pick you up"  well I'll just reply with "no need to put yourself in danger for me!"

Yeah I hate that. If I feel like it's too dangerous to drive myself, what makes you think I'm going to trust the driving of someone I've never rode with before, and on icy roads especially?

Another factor may be your overall attendance record. I had no problem and no recourse for calling in during the last ice storm and they even let me make my hours back up. But I had also never called in, even once, since I started working for them.

I once called off due to bad weather and had the manager say "whatever" and slam the phone down. What a professional. I get he was probably frustrated because a lot of people were calling off, but it's still no excuse.

When people call off for bad weather at my store they don't care. It's terrible outside. The store will be dead anyways. Only about 2 of our 30 front end employees show up on snow days.
