Departmental Hourly Rates
Permalink

Hi all,

I work at a Fred Meyer store, and at Fred Meyer, associates are paid at rates dependent upon department.  For example, Home Clerks currently top out at $11.95/hour and Food Clerks top out at around $15/hour(unsure of the exact rate).  Does this sort thing occur at Kroger stores, or is it just a Fred Meyer thing?

Kroger has levels. Per my contract, courtesy clerks are level 1 and never receive increases. Level 2 (part-time) tops out at ~$11/hr. Level 3 (full time clerks, part time floor supervisors, cake, office) tops out at ~$14. Level 4, described as "Key positions, one 40 hour cash office, dary, frozen food, cake decorator, receiver, file clerk, floral attendant, and marketplace leads" also top out at a little over $14. Supervisors start at the 'topped out' rate plus $1 or so.

So, yes, Kroger does have a complex pay rate schedule.

I still can't believe full time supervisors get nothing extra in ATL division.  It's crazy

I'm pretty sure that many of the pay rates in the stores have to depend on the state's minimum wage, then it goes up by $.50 - $1.00 per year. I work out in the fuel station and our current pay rate is:

Start - $7.45 (Michigan minimum wage)
12 months - $8.00
24 months - $8.50
36 months - $9.00
48 months - $9.75

Fuel lead (department head) gets an extra $1.00 per hour premium.

Note: Only the fuel lead is full time, all others are part time

She's in Cincy/Dayton. Ohio seems to pay better rates than a lot of states so that's part of it.

my hourly rate is 15.05 and i am a grocery department head in charge of dry grocery, frozen and dairy, what do grocery department heads make in your area? May i also mention that there is no overtime allowed so my salary per year is a measly 32,000k per year, it funny how i made the same salary for another chain 15 years ago and they are much smaller than kroger.

I am a part time grocery clerk on nights.  I just topped out at $14.72.  When I am back-up for my night manager, I make Make his pay, $18.70.  When I am a department manager, I am in an ok contract and will make $18.70.

Assistant Market Managers make $14.10 - $14.40 / hr depending upon what volume the store runs. Market Managers run $18.70 - $19.70 / hr depending upon volume. A meat clerk makes about $13.35 / hr. This is based all on full time.
