In the 20+ years I've been with Kroger the employees seem to lose more and more with each contract. This is what we've lost so far:
Local 227
1. 6 day pay. It used to be you got time and a half on the 6th day if you worked 6 days in one week, regardless if it was over 40 hours or not.
2. End of year bonuses for full time employees. I think I got it once or twice.
3. Time and a half for working on a holiday. That ended a year or so before I started. Only employees who were hired before a certain date still receive it.
4. Time and a half for working over 32 hours in a holiday week. This ended with this last contract. Current employees at the time still receive it but new hires do not. They still receive holiday pay after one year of service, but the hours paid are extra and don't count as hours worked. In other words, they don't get three days off in a holiday week.
5. Decent raises. Our total wage increase over the life of the current contract (3 years) is only 50 cents. The last contract (4 years) it was over a dollar.

And the worst part is union dues keep going up.
No, that's not the worst part in and of itself. The worst part is the people allowing it to happen.
Your contract flat out sucks. We get all those things in my division (midsouth) regardless of union status. So we get the perks without the dues, only we can't vote. Pretty awesome.
