There has been lots of events put into place that line up my store to close soon and I was wondering if anyone else has been through a store closing before. I'm a full time employee and also in the union as well.
Read the 2nd paragraph from the 876 contract website. I am not sure what your contract states. Your regional union rep is the person you need to get into contact with.
Be careful with that. We with 876 just got that wordage put into the contract. How it's always been is that you'd lose all seniority unless you applied for a job bid.
Here's what it says in the new contact booklet I just got:
"Transfers...will maintain their seniority date, and go to the current applicable wages and benefits of the new seniority area."
Paragraph 3 explains full-time employees can request a transfer to a closer store to their home. Paragraph 5 explains how part-timers have seniority rights in transferring in the event of lay-offs or store closings.
I worked @ Kroger J926 in Indianapolis. It closed in November 2009. I never thought they would do it to be honest. It took about 4 weeks to sell through all the remaining groceries. Some stuff like DSD (Beer,Chips, Pop) got sent back to the vendor. A majority of the items were reduced 10-20-30% off until all/most of it was gone. Deliveries will stop right away too ofcourse.
