Okay so I as hired as an courtesy clerk and had no idea that meant bagger.. =/ Well yesterday it was literraly POURING ice/rain out and I (A female) was told go get carts. To say the least I was told to clock out and go home if that's something I don't want to do. It was my second day...which means I'm still in my probation period...At my other job (Walmart) Females Never had to do carts. It's embrassing to be lugging around a huge line of carts mainly becusse the Kroger I work at is in a popular shopping center. Anways Am I fired? I was told on my first day I would move to being a cashier after a month. But by the looks of it I did not survive. I also did not sign with the union because I had a feeling once I found out what position I had I wouldn't be there long. Also ALL krogers in my city as desperately hiring. Do you think I could just apply and start working at another one? The day that I finished training for one Kroger another Kroger called for an interview but I went with the one that was the closest to me. The other Kroger that called me for an interview was for the deli position too. = / HELP!!

I also forgot to mention NO I did not go out and get the carts. I'm not about to get sick over a minimum wage job.

If you are told to get carts and you refuse then you are refusing a job assignment and you can be terminated. Now there are circumstances where they shouldn't have any baggers out there getting carts whether it be because of the weather and what not, but you being a girl doesn't mean you don't have to get carts. Unless you have some sort of medical condition and your doctor says you can't get carts then you need to get carts. You're still on probation so they can terminate you for any or no reason at all. You need to check with your supervisor and find out. If they terminate you at one Kroger then you'll be flagged in the system as a 'not for rehire'.

I think you need to change your attitude if you expect to make it in the work force.

lol, If I was the store manager, yes, I would fire you.  It is up to the store manager whether you still have a job or not.

You were hired as a bagger aka courtesy clerk.  One of their tasks is to get carts.  Rain, sleet or snow.  Whatever you do, do not apply to be a mailwoman.  You will fail the creed.

The limit is 5 carts at a time at our store.  Heck, I was getting carts during the big storm a few weeks ago in sub zero temps and I am a first class grocery clerk.  I had a lot of work that needed to be done too...  I saw one produce guy with 25 years with kroger and the frozen lead also getting carts that day.

Never ever play the female card for any job for any reason.  You will never hold down a steady job for the rest of your life.

"clock out and go home if that's something I(you) don't want to do."  That is exactly what my manager has trained me to say if someone refuses to follow my directions when I am in charge of my department.  I don't have time for whiners.

You need a reality check.  Kroger can hire anyone off the street to get carts.  You can not pick and choose what you want to do if you want to remain employed at kroger.  You should follow reasonable directions or find another job.

You should have dressed well and been prepared for the cold and wet weather.  Heavy jacket, hat, scarf(?), gloves and snow shoes.  It is usually a 15-30 minute shift to get carts in freezing temps.  And your reward should be free hot cocoa.  I believe that was corporates instructions to all the stores.

If you get a second chance, apologize for your insubordination and try not to be a spoiled brat next time.

If you were fired, learn from this experience and good luck wherever you land.

I am not trying to be obnoxious and mean but this is how I would speak to my younger sisters.

When someone refuses to do their job, another person has to do it for them. This simple concept seems to go over a lot of people's heads. What makes it worse is when someone throws sexism into the mix and says males should do more work for the same amount of pay. Quite honestly, I'm disgusted by OP's actions.

Everything ABOUT you screams YES! I AM A WORTHLESS SELF ABSORBED PIECE OF $HIT!

Fate seriously needs to send a garbage truck loaded with smelly tampons to run you over. And then back up and do it again.

You refused to do your job assignment. Let's see here:

1. You're a girl: WHO CARES?!?

2. It was pouring ice/rain: thick rain jacket. And SO WHAT?!?

3. Carts is not a woman's job: BULL****! (We hired this one courtesy who is a perfectionist workaholic. We had to tell HER, yes HER carts were ok.)

4. You don't want to get sick: understandable... BUT!!! they supply jackets in bad weather. Plus in dangerous weather, I doubt they'd have you outside for long... If at all.

So basically, do your job and don't pass your assignments you don't want to do onto others. I HATE it when people do that! Freaking lazy asses!!

It's girls like you who make women everywhere look bad. In fact, what's embarrassing, is you.

You don't want to get carts? Boo freaking hoo. If I had that attitude any time I had to lift anything, I'd be out of a job real quick and it'd be my own fault.

First, if Walmart was such a good job, why'd you leave?

And second, why would you ever accept a job without asking what the conditions of the job were? To have an attitude of "I didn't realize courtesy clerk meant bagger, ewwwwww" just makes you sound really bitchy, ignorant, and entitled.

And yes, I can defintiely see you surviving in the deli. Imagine if you had to put a truck away. "Oh I can't lift boxes, that's embarrassing! Ewwwwwww". -_-

We've had a couple girls who try to avoid carts in the rain. Most don't care and do their jobs. We provide gloves and rain gear.  We'll even send two at a time if the weather is extreme or wait for a break in a downpour if it appears unsafe.

My female fellow floor supervisors and I have been in the rain and snow doing your job.  Get over yourself!  Do it or go home.

I'd be happy to invite management to let you go for refusal to do your job.

If your walmart refuses to have women out to get carts then walmart needs to be sued by the males for sexism. You're not a special snowflake.

1. It's your fault for not asking what the courtesy clerk's job description is. If you didn't want to bag and haul carts, you should've opted for a cashier position or find another job.

2. Don't use that male/female crap. There's a sweet lady in our courtesy clerk line-up that gets out there with the rest of the clerks, no matter the weather. And here you've got feminists who insist on being treated as "equals" as men yet back out and use the gender card if it involves doing things they don't want.

3. Embarrassing to be lugging around carts? Again, why sign up for the job?

4. All Kroger stores in your city are hiring? Well, it seems like they're not that desperate since they fired you for insubordination.

5. While the store manager has the final say regarding your employment status, I hope that they do in fact fire you. People like you, regardless of gender, are what makes the tasks much more difficult for the ones who do commit to the task. The feeling of the "self-entitlement" the younger generation has is sickening. No wonder that your parents and grandparents would be (or has been) better off financially than the current and upcoming generation would be.

6. Kroger provides you with gear to help during inclement weather. If it was raining hard and no jackets are currently available, you let them know that and wait until one becomes available. I recall the winter storm we had last month that sent freezing rain, sleet, snow, and single-digit temperatures in our area. They provided gloves and jackets. If none were available, we were authorized to get them off the shelves free of charge (and told to keep them as thanks).

7. If you decide to seek employment in another Kroger, I sincerely hope that they inquire about your previous status and regarding your insubordination.

8. Walmart? Then why even consider working at another Kroger if you're gonna put Walmart in the good spotlight about not having to do "physical" labor?

Also, great job on piling on this person, y'all. Great teamwork! xD

And please Anonymous don't use the whole "younger generation" crap either, I do not want to be lumped in with this chick. That's what's embarrassing.

There are plenty of older people who are lazy and don't want to work too. But people like this girl are doing no one any favors to help improve anyone's image.

Okay, so what did you think a "courtesy clerk" did? I have seen (female) front end supervisors and assistant store managers go out and get carts in all kinds of weather when it needed to get done. How embarrassing !

Can't do it because you're a girl. Suck it up and wear your big girl panties. I've worked with women who got carts in the snow and who've even made a bale when the bailer was full. I'm a girl is a crappy excuse.

What our manager does is this: if you fail to do your carts or gather a majority of them on YOUR hour, and leave a lot for the net person, then it's your (un)lucky day! You get to do the next person cart schedule.

Getting carts: NOT embarrassing.

Embarrassing: THINKING you'll find support/sympathy from those of us on here who busy our asses doing our assigned jobs.

All I really am going to say is...just because you're a female doesn't mean you're entitled to special treatment. As a female, that stupid statement really torques me off. Seriously? Also, how is it embarrassing? Know your limits and shove the damn carts into the store. Our female CC's are badass and do a great job.

I work as a courtesy clerk at my kroger store, being a 19 year old female, I think getting carts is probably one of the easiest things to do. SO I go ahead and gladly do it WITHOUT COMPLAINING. All of my CSMs love me for that because I don't complain about doing what I'm told.
Here's a tip: don't complain and just do it. You will live, I promise lol biggrin

I have a penis and I wouldn't want to go out in the ice/rain either.  Having a penis doesn't mean you can go outside in the rain and not catch a cold.  I can empathize with not wanting to go out in the rainstorm, but once you bring gender into the mix, you lose me.

All she needs to do is use the appropriate gear to do carts. At my store if the weather is wild, we do the carts in 10-15 min incriminate depending on how bad it is
