I am rarely late for work, but today I missed work by an hour. Last night I couldn't sleep due to my anxiety/headaches and it was around 3am and I didn't want to be sleepy for work, and knew I needed sleep. So, I took some sleeping medicine, and accidentally slept through both of my alarms. I was supposed to be in at 9 and called at 10 to explain what happened. My department manager didn't seem too mad. She just called someone else in, and than I talked to the store manager explaining to him that I was sorry that I overslept on account of my medicine. Is being a no call no show for an hour late terms for being written up or fired?
Depends how cool your manager is. The system will put you as a no call no show automatically but it sounds like your manager isn't too worried about it. I'd say you're fine.

I thought people were joking when they said working for Kroger sucks...
I did the exact same thing last year, took medicine, overslept and woke up 1 1/2 hours late. They just gave me a verbal warning which they can only use against me for 6 months.
Depends on the people who works at your store. I know several people that do that at my store and they don't really get in trouble with management unless we are busy and we need them. A cashier at my store is late everyday almost and they never say much to her.
If your supervisor wasn't too mad or didn't seem to worry much then I wouldn't sweat over it. The worse thing that will happen is you will get a write up telling you not to do it again within 90 days. I can see how it could be a no-call-no-show, but from how it sounds your supervisor is I bet they will only file it as an improper call off (If they even file it at all).
If your taking drugs to help you sleep because you dont want to be sleepy for work, I suggest straightening that mess out. Change jobs or hours or something.
You know it will happen again and you will probably be fired/written up no doubt next time.
I've been late a few times due to my horrible sleeping habits..... Normally i'm cleared to work a little extra if I want to. I try not to make a habit of it though.

I must have been late 15 times in the last 6 months because I take the bus. However, I've never called off a single day and often stay late when asked and come in early or on days off when asked.. I got a Corrective Action Report thing twice.. told if i'm late again I get suspended (read: unpaid vacation) for 3 days. When they wrote me up the manager didn't know if I had called off these days or was late. Seems retarded to equate being 10 minutes late with calling off entirely... thing is when they wrote me up those times, they only had like a third of the times I was late on the report, meaning it's as if they didn't even catch all the other times.. only like 4 out of 8 or something... Of course I argued if they actually paid me a decent wage and gave me consistent hours, I would actually be able to afford a car and could drive there and not have to rely on the bus, but as always, management could give a flying **** about the quality of life for it's slaves that actually do everything and this was not considered a reasonable excuse. Whatever the case, I'm sure eventually I can be easily replaced, but at the moment there aren't many people looking to take my position as nobody wants it because my department totally sucks and people are quitting left and right .....and while I may be late, I'm still more dependable than most of the other people there ...so if they want to fire me, they'd have to realize they'd be shooting themselves in the foot so I'm not too worried. It's not like there aren't other jobs out there that pay minimum wage, I have nothing to lose, if they were to fire me, they'd actually be doing me a favor by forcing me to get off my ass and find another job.
