Assistant Floor Supervisor

One of our newest cashiers is now an assistant floor supervisor (not part time floor supervisor  - assistant to the floor supervisor she said). They gave her an override and she was telling us all what to do last night.  Is this an actual position?  I looked in my union handbook and I didn't see it.

Who the hell gave her an override? She can do a lot of damage with that. Anyways the position isn't real and you shouldn't take crap from her. She cannot write you up. She cannot even reccomend to the managers that you be written up. It's probably some college girl on a power trip since she's the new lead babysitter of the baggers. But really the joke is on her. If she wants to play with fire and parade around in that red vest, she'll have to defuse angry customers, be on a register often, and get yelled at by management for not getting people to do carts, bathroom checks, sweeps, go-backs, and trash -- all without the $1 premium of being a Front End "Supervisor." However if nothing's getting done, you can tell the store manager about it and suggest that he take away her override.

I'm thinking about filing a grievance with the union.  I have seniority over her, and that made up job should be mine not hers LOL!

And if she misuses her override, by overriding checks, putting "generic prices" on items that will not scan on register, EVEN if she knows the price on a whim, she can and will be eventually written up. I've seen it happen at my store.

And guess what? If she lets a checker use her card and they screw up, then SHE WILL be held responsible because her employee ID is linked to that card. She's responsible for it and it's use

Oh it's not her override, the Front End Manager leaves her nametag with the override on it for her to use.  They used to leave an override with me since I close the store most nights.  Our district manager came in the store and found out and told them not to do it.

Because it's easy to get away with so much using an override. It's just as bad as stealing from the till itself. We use to loose tons of money due to override use. Now only key people can have an override. Don't know the price? Then you look or send someone to find it. If you still need an override then the pic must find out what the override is being used for.

Don't even bother. Since it sounds like she is getting no more pay and is probably still the same clerk on paper, but is just scheduled as a floor supervisor, you have absolutely no grounds for a grievance. Don't waste your union rep's time.

I was just joking, sorry.  But I have been thinking of a new job and title for me today, I'm going to make up a good one.  Anyone have any ideas?

One more thing, I'm a senior employee so I'm thinking about using that in my new job title.  Any ideas anyone? I'm tired of being just a cashier LOL!

Sounds to me like someone has way to much time on their hands.....when I was floor supervisor had plenty of things to do and bossing was not one of them to get a team work thing going on.......even with my override key.....lol.....dont think there is such a position to answer your question.

to clear some things up, the vests aren't always red. in ATL they're black.

also in ATL, the floor supervisors, office people get no premiums. they make the same as if they were just cashiers unless they're old contract.

what is this thing about cards and overrides?  we have personalized numbers assigned to use that we type in with our key turns.

i've had people ask for my number thinking it's generic and shared before and explained they're individualized and i'm responsible for what is done with it.

Many divisions have moved from keys to scannable bar codes on plastic cards. Cheaper to order, easier to keep up with for some people, and if you happen to lose it you can just type in the number from the bar code if you know it (which can be a helpful tip btw)

Lolololol!no

I've been a floor supervisor for about 5 months now, and never heard of an assistant floor supervisor... man would that be nice...

Are you just a cashier? If so, myob...

Someone with authority gave that person permission/ an overide card... so it all falls on them.

My rant on supervising=====>

****ing $7.45 an hour to Supervise the entire checkout proccess of a $500,000+ a week store, boss around little high school kids, deal with idiot customers, run U scan, run the service desk, and to break my neck looking at those damn que vision monitors!

Haha but seriously, I never asked to be a supervisor, I never asked to be a cashier, I never asked to run the fuel center, or service desk, or u scan, or help the co managers do their jobs (stock shelves lol). I just wanted to be a lowly bagger...

In my store, we have three part time supervisors, one being myself... I get about 25-30 hours a week, one gets about the same, and the other one only works on the weekends...

My CSM told me that I'm the best supervisor.. so I guess that's a nice pat on the back but still this job is complete BS. The pay is also complete crap for the work provided, considering all the stress and responisbility...

Of that giant list of things, cashier, fuel center, service desk, uscan, and stocking, which one do you think is the least stressful?
