Was wondering if other stores had the same amount of training that we had at our store today, when the new cashier key boards were installed..........that would be none.
This is really ridiculous. Kroger is doing this so all keyboards are the same across the enterprise. Another ****ing program rolled out to keep some worthless pos in the general office feel like they did some work.
this keyboard has major major major changes. If its not broke don't fix it.
my store got the new keyboards other day. we did not know that we were getting them. I guess I should say cashiers did not know probably front office knew. about drove cashiers batty that day. we would tell customers please be patience with us we have new keyboards and we are trying to learn where all the buttons are. my hand kept going automatic to the enter and total button and those buttons are on the opposite side of the keyboard from the old keyboard. why did they take the deptment keys away like produce, bakery etc.? the old keyboard was set up better than this. if a coupon did not scan you have to type in like 6 or 7 numbers to a deptment? really Kroger? by the way I hope somebody tells Kroger that the new way for coupons does not work. this was thought up by people in corporate that has never worked right in a store at all. these people in corporate needs to actually work in a store before they try to change something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.if it is not broke do not fix it!!!!!!!!!!.

From what I was told, the first part was deliberate. They didn't want people to "key ring" (i.e. put their own prices when a price wasn't known or an item wasn't ringing up) because it was leading to abuse.
For coupons, we've been told to do loyalty refunds if they don't scan (6809).
And yes we also got lots of problems with people mixing Enter, Total, and Clear, especially with scanning produce, and with checks. Delightful.

You can still do these things. You just need to know the PLU for dept. i don't know if it's different in your division but in mine the best practices training guide say do the same kind of thing we used to with vendor coupon, price & the dept key.
now it's coupon, price, override & dept code. i can't imagine why you'd do 6809 for coupons. if it's one of the infamous kroger mailer coupons that won't scan, there's other codes you can use as listed on the produce roller.
Got notice today that we are getting the key changes too. Yippee. Everything is moving around on the keyboard. They are removing keys we use and adding ones for functions that don't work. Plus, we will have to schedule the acct person that morning at least 1-2 hours early to fix the buttons on our 21 registers and run the update file in ACE.
I work for Ralphs (Kroger's Southern California divison) for us the new keyboards caused us to mess up when entering numbers, our old keyboards had the numbers laid out like on a phone (123 at the top 789 at the bottom) with these new keyboards the numbers are laid out like on a calculator or computer (123 at the bottom 789 at the top) so when entering quantities many of us including myself will accidentally ring up an item as "7 -> Qty key" instead of "1-> Qty key". Its so frustraing .
