Keyboard keys
Permalink

Just curious about some of the keyboard functions. I asked my FES and he couldn't give me a real answer so I thought I'd ask here. What does the FS/NO FS button do? What's the difference between the TAX/NO TAX and the DISCOUNT/TAX EXEMPT BUTTONS? We recently got the new keyboard layout, am I ever gonna need to use the GIFT RECEIPT or the GIFT ITEM buttons? Thanks.

From what I know of the previous keyboard, Tax/No Tax will make the item scanned either taxable or non taxable (there might be a Q letter next to the price instead of F or B or something), although you should never need to use it. I think FS/no FS does the same except for foodstamps, but it never seemed to work for me. I believe discount/tax exempt is for removing the tax from the order only for tax-exempt organizations and township vouchers.

Honestly, I don't know why they changed the keyboard. It is completely pointless. Way to go kroger...

Sorry, when I said the same except for foodstamps, I meant make the item foodstampable or not. But it never seemed to work for me, and you shouldn't need to use it at all.

Tax/no tax is for orders that are tax exempt. The customer has to have a tax exemption form filled out, it has to have a copy of the receipt attached and given to your accounting associates to do whatever with (not sure where they file it)

FS/NO FS is from when you used to have to do a separate total for foodstamps card. You can still do it (i do it out of habit) you just press FS/NO FS and then TOTAL and then EFT. There is also a button that just says FOODSTAMPS you can do the same thing with. But here we don't have to do that anymore we just press eft.

Discount we never use, you total an order and press something like 10 then discount and it will discount the order 10%

Gift reciept prints a gift reciept for the entire order.. just shows the items but no prices, with a barcode at the bottom for returns. (you can do this after an order, i believe it's 98 + signon)

I assume Gift item is something you press then scan the item and will print a gift reciept for just that item.

From what I read, there are new keyboards in some areas.. we still have the old ones so some of this may be different information.

the "new keyboards" are the old keyboards with a new layout and some slightly different procedures.  clearing lanehawk changed, vendor coupon changed, etc.

Ask your front end lead to provide you with a handout of the new keyboard function........it is lengthy but informative ........since the training was so extensive at our work location as in strap in your seat and get ready for one heck of a ride......

i dont know about all the other keys (they arnt changing our key boards for another couple of weeks) , but I do know that I have had to use the gift receipt and gift item keys many many times. I think it just depends what type of cashier you are ? working in apparel or electronics you get many customers who are buying gift items and want a receipt to give the gift receiver that doesnt state the price. press the gift receipt button after the transaction is complete and it will print out a copy of the previous receipt with no prices listed. if you press gift item before scanning an item you will get an individual receipt for that item

Gift receipts don't work in my division. You can print one for the order, but they do nothing when scanned.
