Sliding Carts

This is the first store, ever, I have been at that has carts that slide sideways and I have been to every mainland state and moved 30+ times. When I say they slide sideways I mean that when stacked together as a courtesy clerk they will slide to the left or right just as effectively as they will forward and backward unlike most carts. This is a problem for turning carts since they will continue to slide as you turn them even if you start turning at a stop and for uneven surfaces which, in this case, is the entire parking lot being completely uneven. I can't see how these carts are acceptable due to the nature of them being able to cause accidents/damage so easily and a simple strap (we don't have the clip on at both end straps, just the non-lock ->"?" single hook at one end and the rest being a strap). This can make pushing even a few carts a real chore while pushing 15 of the normal would be considered a breeze by comparison (which says a lot).

Are these carts actually allowed or is something odd going on? I just don't see how... and I have never seen this type of cart used elsewhere. Feedback is appreciated.

Just started at Kroger but I have never heard of a cart going sideways. As a shopper at Wal-Mart, Ingles, Kroger, Food Depot, even places like Target I have dealt with shopping carts before that had wheel issues, where the wheels would sometimes spin as I pushed the cart. This in turn would cause the cart to move sideways rather than forward. Is it something like that?

It's probably in some stores like IMKEA where you can move the cart front, back, and side to side without turning.

In that case, don't do 15 at a time. If they ask you why you're not doing it, tell them why and ask them to cover any possible damages that may happen. ;)

OMG, IKEA has the best carts! I love them.

Then again, I don't round up carts, so my opinion means squat.

Yeah, they slide side without turning very easily which makes actually turning them instead of sliding them tedious when you have say 6 carts. It is worse when the mad rush begins and carts are low. Pushing 6 wont keep up with the customers, especially how poorly the parking lot is designed makes getting them in from the lot a chore. While I have not hit any vehicles thus far I know most of the others that have weren't even while pushing, but while stacking carts together and while they turn around to grab another 4-5 just casually roll sideways into someones car due to how uneven the lot is and how easily these travel sideways. Nearly happened to me a few times too and there is only one small section of the lot in the end corner that is flat enough so this wont occur.
