The hell is a journeyperson? I've heard people say it a lot in meat, but I've never learned what it means.
My friend, there's better ways to use the Internet other than midget pr0n and posting in third-rate forums about your employer. Might I suggest using Google and looking up the term "jorneyman"?

So how do you become a journeyperson at Kroger? I know there are plenty of people who make the journeyman rate at my store (around $20/hr) who don't work in trade skill departments.

Meat cutting is a trade skill. Kroger has a meat department. The meat department can also make custom cuts for customers.

california I think the older contract dairy and produce mangers make just a lil less than meat managers maybe 19 a hour with cashiers I know the older ones are over 18 bucks a hour. but their contract is up and I think they're gonna be screwed more than the last few contracts

What's odd about that? My contract goes up to $19-something in grocery and $16 or $17 for all the other departments. All the old timers make $19-25/hr, depending on what legacy contracts apply to them.

That is odd, actually. My store tops out at 13.40, even for full time, and even that's a dollar higher than most of the other stores in my division.
The cost of living in California is very high especially in LA and SF. Sure we make $19 hr , but a 1 bedroom apt is 1200 month a 1 bedroom condo is 250,000
Yeah in the deep south $19 an hour would make you middle class, here it means you're barely keeping above not being able to pay your bills (for one person without a roommate).
If you want to get real jealous think about the old timers on a holiday; they're making around $40/hr on a holiday!
