Changing vacation without my approval/knowledge?

I put in for my vacation 2-3 weeks ago and my manager inpit it on e-schedule and he said it was a go. so I was technically on vacation this week. Well, we have a temp manager, and he up and changed it last Friday sometime around 11 or 12 for me to work. This temp is only staying for 3 weeks. So I took it upon my self to take my vacation as originally scheduled anyways. I have gotten dozens of calls. Now what I want to know is when i return to work will I have suspension/termination papers awaiting my signature Or can I fight it?

You (the union) can fight it.

You say you got dozens of calls. Did you answer any of them to say, 'dude I'm on vacation, the manager set it up 3 weeks ago'? If no one but your former manager knew about it, you may be awaiting a hellstorm when you get back to work. Communication is important since management communicates so poorly.

Does it say it was approved on Eschedule? I would print that out.

You should have taken a pic or made a copy of the eschedule vacation. That way they can't do anything. But not answering the dozens of calls is a ****storm in the making of epic proportions. Be prepared to be be torn to pieces when you get back. Chances are they may jut warn you. But don't count on it. Do what I do, make a copy of your schedule. That way if management changes it and fails to notify you on time, you can't get in trouble.

If you first noticed it, why didn't you say anything? You could ways play "ignorant" and say you didn't know of the change, and erase your incoming calls but that's pushing it.

Its going to depend on how long they have to change your schedule after its been posted.  Paper schedule is considered the real schedule.  Contact your union.  In my division if you don't show up for three days in a row without a call, your considered a quitter.  Good luck.

Management cannot change your vacation without your approval.

When you stay manager do you mean dept. head.  If so don't worry about it, there's nothing a head can do.  Keep us informed on what the outcome was.

It was our temp store manager. Our regular kne is helping out at another store. I got another call today, and on my voicemail it said to contact the store right away. I called in and they told me to come in for a discussion. I'm nervous on the outcome, but I am going to see if I can get ahold of the original schedule before it was "revised"

Hopefully it turns out ok for you. But yeah get ahold of the original schedule if you can. Expect a write up at the very least, but if they just want to talk them go in and explain the situation.

The obvious is that someone is angry about the lack of communication. Your interim manager was just going by the schedule and it doesn't appear that anyone but the guy that inputted your vacation into eschedule knew about it.

"So I took it upon my self to take my vacation as originally scheduled anyways." <-- you had the opportunity to tell someone that you were supposed to be on vacation and the schedule was wrong.

You can come up with a number of lame reasons for missing the phone calls: 'my phone was dead', 'that was my home phone and I was out town', 'you had the wrong number, I gave that phone to my brother last month'.... etc.. But you may need to prove that you were supposed to be out. What happened to the manager that approved your vacation? The store should have contact info on file if he left or transferred. It basically sounds like the problem started with the vacation not locking into the system correctly. A temp manager wouldn't go leaps and bounds out of the way to delete your vacation without telling you.

vacations usually have a paper trail.  we have a book where we put in how we want to be paid, either early, before we go on vacation, or regular time.  most stores i know about require vacations to be picked and approved in writing by a date certain.

they can change that though but have always discussed it and the reason why and settled on the new date.

Check your union contract regarding when vacations are supposed to be finalized. here in the Michigan division, April 1st is the cutoff, and they can't be changed by management after that date.

I'm curious to see how this turned out. I hope the OP comes back.

I went in to talk to them and it turns out the reason why they changed it was 3 guys quit. While it wasn't mandatory I come in, I was given a VERY stern warning NOT to do that again. I would have gotten the days back (business permitting of course) some point this year. I wouldn't have even gotten in trouble for saying. "No." But what I DID get in "trouble" for was not calling back in and taking off despite the changed schedule. Go figure : /
