Breaking the barrier

I work in the meat department and we've been doing quite well in the past few years with sales up and very little shrink, however despite having all these sales our hours are cut down. I love my store manager, he is an awesome boss, but he lets the district manager walk all over him. We could push forward and the entire meat department is willing to do just that if he would just give us more hours. We ran $109,000 last week in my meat sales and in the previous week we ran $120,000 for meat department. We typically average around $100,000 week in meat sales. Now, with Memorial Day coming up we would like to do a crawfish boil, but they wont allot the manpower to do it. We could run around $130,000 - $140,000 in meat sales memorial day if they would give us the help. Our meat department is highly dedicated to serving the area.

Just a rant mostly.

It's a shame the higher ups think they know what's best simply because they get paid a large sum of money because if they stopped and listened to those that work in the stores and connect with the customers, they might start to realize that there's actually more money to be made. Instead, it's all about cutting, cutting, cutting in order to try and bring down costs as much as possible... yet as that cutting is occurring, they clearly aren't stopping to think about what possibilities for growth that they're cutting out of the picture as well. I think we all understand it's important to control expenses, but sometimes, investing a little money can lead to getting back that investment and making a nice profit, too. I know it's frustrating because you can see the potential that's there and nobody that can make it happen is listening, but the fact of the matter is, your dedication to your customers is simply on a completely different level from how corporate feels about the customers.

It's times like this too that really shed light on how little power a store manager actually has. I'm sure our store manager feels the way you do, but as much as he may want to follow through on what you and others want to do, he has his position as store manager to think about. No store manager or co-managers want a district manager or coordinator or someone else that's higher up in the company angry or dissatisfied with him or her, so playing it "safe" is usually the option management will opt for.

maybe a friendly dept head can loan you hours they don't need.

what was said in the above follow up about those making salary thinking they know it all when they're not the ones walking the store and engaged with customers day-to-day is true.  some of them are not very dynamic thinkers but have the big ego not to know their limitations.

they hear something in a meeting or conference call and it becomes "the way" even if it doesn't fit a given situation or store.

one day i had a customer request something for nutrition, the co-manager who "helped" threw away the request and said it was just a scam to distract him.  this is an established customer who is in the store several times a week and he's asked at least twice if there had been any resolution on his request.

Diversity at it's best just like the country all these corporations hopped in the diversity band wagon and after years and years of promoting people based on race or gender instead of experience and brains there is a total disconnect. There is those of us who live in reality and those who don't. It's a complete disaster and its only going to get worse. For example You have a woman with spiked hair promoted to coordinator of a department that she's never even stepped foot into but hey she is a minority and has a girlfriend so perfect for the job. Lol could go on but you can figure it out.

Well we're going to break the barrier since they've given us around 60 more hours this week. I've already ordered 40 cases of bone-in ribeye and i'm ordering another 60 cases of spare ribs for the sale. I've also ordered another 40 cases of ballpark franks and 40 cases of the bun length as well. I'm aiming high mother****ers. lol

40 cases of Ribeye seem a bit much compared to everything else you ordered. I mean 60 cases of spare ribs is only 360 ribs to sale at a 1.49$ price, while 40 cases of ribeyes is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200 family pack ribeyes, 2 to a pack, 1" thick at 4.99$. Have you pulled the production ordering tool to see how many ribeyes you sold over mothers day at the same price? Just concerned you are going to be heavy on one product and too light on another.

We do 3 Bone-In Ribeyes at a little more than 1", we like to call it a "good inch". Its basically in between 1 and 1 1/4 of an inch and 60 cases of spare ribs is only for about 2 days.
