They had those displayed on a mannequin by our lobby. We'll most definitely get the green shirts, but not sure about the red caps.

Somewhat incensitive of Kroger to have a taste of Mexico while Mexico is holding a Marine in jail unjustly.

As least the T-shirts make for comfortable summer attire. I feel sorry for the employees wearing the aprons over their polo, though.

did you get t-shirts or aprons?

I find the whole thing slightly offensive.

the bakery has a big display of mexico themed cookies but they're just the standard cookie with tri-colored frosting. they're not even proper ethnic recipe cookies.  there's even a cake featuring the Mexican flag.

if they're trying to attract Latin customers, it's not exactly the best pitch and if they're trying to tick off Americans right before flag and and the fourth of July they're on a roll!

it's kinda laughable since Ralph's division is in such bad shape.

Taste of Mexico should have been for Cinco de Mayo. All the uniforms and caps are being paid for by the vedors as well as up front money for Ralphs. Taste of Mexico just doesnt work in the area I am in. It is predominantly Jewish. Kroger is making money through the backdoor on this one and very little from any sales that happen.

Yep, our displays up font have boxes of old el paso hardshell tacos.  That aint mexican food!  The only thing I see going are the mexican sodas, those are good.

Put me down as favoring the tshirts, Im pretty sure they'll fade after a wash or two and look bad, but I'm not sweating when I work or care how they look.

Next month is Taste of Italy.  So I guess that means we'll each get three more t-shirts that we'll wear for three weeks and then never wear again.  It's funny, Kroger manages to spend money on useless t-shirts but they don't seem to have enough for employee health insurance.

In July we're also having "Taste of Germany". All baking and oven products would be set at Aisle Nein.

Deli Merchandisers came into our deli the other day and put three things into our salad case as a preview.  We sold less than two pounds worth of the ****!

We don't even get the shirts here, just the apron and the hat.

Which sucks because I wear a polo AND a black vest so 3 layers now in June? Lovely.

I hope we don't get any shirts and if we do I hope we won't be required to wear them because I won't be wearing anything other than the standard uniform they gave me when I was hired... I'm off this whole week, so I'll just have to see what happens when I go back to work.

Like you I'm delighted to be layered to death.  I'm already sweltering with an undershirt and polo.

I've managed to sneak by without my vest for now but I've got my apron.  if i'm at the service desk no one will be able to read it.

it's nonsense.

Ah yes... I'm sure this "Taste of Mexico" will be a roaring success. Just like...

... Refresh was. Oh wait... that bombed.

... Winning in Each Store, then! Uh... how did that turn out again? Oh right... it flopped.

Kroger thinks its going to beat Central Market at its own game when Central Market actually goes all out and offers customers authentic flavors from within the USA and from other countries? Yeah... sure... months from now, within the company, the "Taste of Mexico" concept will be long forgotten, just as nobody that works at Kroger or is a part of corporate will remember (or want to remember) what a "Deep Dive" was or what "Fresh and Friendly" meant.

By all means, though, waste more money on t-shirts that will accomplish nothing and be tossed out after three weeks. Waste money on clothes, waste money on signs, waste money on promoting stuff that doesn't actually exist, ("Faster Check-Out at Kroger!" - sure...) ("New! Lower Prices!" - as long as ALDI isn't down the street and Walmart is still cheaper on a lot of stuff Kroger sells), just don't spend any money on the people working in the stores that are entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of and interacting with the customers that are making the company and its shareholders deliriously rich! No, no, no... the employees sure don't deserve a raise, not one bit.

This is why a lot of employees simply don't care whether the customer leaves happy or not. This is why employees are actually in a better mood on slow days, such as when it rains steadily and heavily. Employees are so excited they get to wear new uniforms and share their "love" for "authentic" Mexican food and culture with customers... not.

Whats a deep dive?

oh they still do the deep dives, that's part of winning in each store which didn't help my store's focus dept. they gave up and moved to another one.

keep in mind each task designed to help the prior focus depts are still a task your dept needs to perform even as they add something new to do for the next focus dept.  the logical progression being your time will eventually be used up doing stuff in other depts and you'll have no time left for your stuff!

i think winning in each store failed for us in part because of staffing. the piddly tasks assigned to "help" were supposed to give them more time to do their own stuff. haha. we don't have time to do our stuff, why are we doing other depts' facing or cleanups? communication also sucked. we have our huddles but none of that information gets passed along unless somebody is pissed off at losses or something.

the taste of mexico thing is a month out of sync, I agree. everybody i mentioned it to asked if it was for cinco de mayo even though that had been weeks earlier.  it's urban atlanta people what can i say?

that's where corporate looks closely at what's selling, what types of customers you have based on the loyalty card scans, what the osat scores and comments might be telling them needs improvement and try to guess areas of opportunity.

they then come up with the various tasks to help focus depts under winning in each store.  it's not a bad idea, i just see a lack of commitment at least in my store and we do a good job compared to others near us.

if they really cared they'd hire more or give enough hours to ensure stuff gets done.  what are the chances all these things are considered in elms?

What if I refuse to wear the green shirts?  Will they write me up or say that I'm a racist for not wearing one?

Ah, that explains the "Deep Dive" stats pages I see in our break room.

Yeah... our stuff's "updated" like... once in a blue moon. However, no one does anything about it. I don't even think we have a focus department at this time.

I didn't wear the ugly red tshirts (which got retired) or the ugly blue tshirts (still in effect) and no one said anything to me.

I heard we got rid of the focus department, because we were trying to do too much, or everyone couldn't really work on one departments shortcomings.

I'm thinking this taste of Mexico has eaten up some of resources for key retailing.

Mexico sucks!! How many countries will this program get to before the next best fresh idea? Friendly and stressed never really even took off out here in mexifornia. Winning in each store was the opposite of winning half the employees in each store don't even know the store has departments let alone a focus department. Complaints have already been rolling in as customers see American flags getting taken down after the last holiday being replaced by Mexican garbage just weeks before the 4th of July.

Another college girl blunder.

What can you expect look at the president of ralphs and all the other hens flocking around her mean women with short hair, a few token minorities and some old time kroger/ family members. Total chaos the entire chain is now runnng like a service deli and it shows

They aren't optional. You are required to wear them, just as the Refresh t-shirts weren't optional. You can be written up for not wearing the t-shirts. There was an e-mail directly from the corporate level stating all front end, produce, grocery and drug/gm associates must wear the t-shirts from June 4th-June 24th (I believe the 24th is the last day, but I may be mistaken on that). I believe deli and bakery are required to wear them as well or it may simply be special aprons and hats that those departments will be receiving. Even management will be wearing the t-shirts, just as management wore the Refresh t-shirts along with everyone else, so if management sees you repeatedly show up not wearing one, expect more than a verbal warning, as this is something corporate is really pushing and fully expects everyone working in the stores to get behind, which, in part, means wearing the t-shirts for the full length of the event period.

Three weekends?  It's for three weeks.  Also, they're going to be doing other countries after this.  That's why the slogan is, "Savor World Flavor".  I believe we're going to Italy next.

While I believe that we shouldn't be catering to the "gringos", "wetbacks", "fence jumpers", "hide-n-seek players", and "welfare leechers", I'm afraid that Corporate wants to for the benefit of sales.

Gringos are what Mexicans call Americans.  We're the Gringos, not them.

... There won't be any other countries after this if this "Taste of Mexico" program goes south. If the reaction is negative, I doubt Kroger will want to spend more money on signs and promotional material and other materials pertaining to another country. Maybe it will be a hit, maybe the reaction will be so-so, I don't know... we'll see. I think it's a neat idea in theory, but it all depends really how far Kroger runs with the idea.

I was told today, that we are only to wear them on the weekends. I will confirm on Thur though.

It's going to be a hit because when the big wigs walk through the store all they're going to see is big displays filled with all kinds of "Mexican" products and employees wearing their green t-shirts.

its this stupid thing that only the managers and dept heads see, it tells what the demographics that are shopping the store what they are spending and what stores are around us and how big they are, also what the customer trackers are saying for individual departments

its a rediculously stupid thing that says nothing about anything

Someone at our store went to a local Mexican restaurant and borrowed a couple big ass, bedazzled sombreros. Yea, we're going whole hog on this one.
