Getting tired of the double standards
Permalink

So today I had a lttle *talking to* by my department head and my comanager about how they think I haven't been working as hard as I should be.

I hardly ever take any breaks (sunday i worked 8 hours with no breaks) and always clock in seven minutes early.

I guess I'm feeling taken advantage of right now because I come in early all the time when asked to and it's not my fault I'm working in a department where every single time they hire someone, they quit, and we have one person on vacation and another on sick leave.

I wasn't written up but she "put a note in my file". They basically both made it sound like when I work in the mornings, I don't get enough done and it makes life so much harder on everyone else. That a certain coworker that I've talked about several times on here being the favorite, works so hard and obeys all commands and that she is the model employee.

So then of course, when I go back downstairs, there's the *model employee* standing there playing with her cell phone talking to our new HR person. I see she's already weaseled her way into being BFFs with her, too.

I'm sure some people are going to come on here and say that I deserve it but what ever. I'm getting tired of some of us having to put in 110% while for some, 50% is enough.

I know right give 110% percent and get crapped on while the people get praised and they only give 50%. Thats why my 2nd job gave me a raise today so I am not even going to bother going into kroger tonight, I am done working piddly 12 hours a week for the past almost 2 years.

Just say, "I'm sorry feel that way."  Also, never ever do Kroger any favors.  Keep working at your own pace.  Stay of your cell phone.  That includes texting.  Do your job.  If that's not good enough for them, put in a transfer to another department or another store.

Do the best you can.  Take your breaks and stop clocking in early.  They're ridding you because they have no choice.  Keep a log whats going on.  People goofing off and such.  Not much to be done.  Start looking for other work?

Or cut your availablity so you cant work in the morning.

Stop giving 110%. Do ONLY what your job requires, and don't do favors for them. They are used to YOU being the go-getter and what not. And if YOU don't get other peoples jobs done, then YOU feel the bite.

Case in point: we had a courtesy who was a pro on go backs. Well our FE supervisor and manager got use to it. So when the courtesy couldn't get ALL the gobacks done, a **** fit was thrown. Al bcause he did them favors all the time

Make sure you tell your second job you quit Kroger without notice and see how your next raise goes!

My NEW manager told me that he felt I wasn't worth the less than $8 an hour that Kroger was paying me. I told him that i was sorry he felt that way.

Idiots will be idiots.

When someone says you're worth less than Kroger wages, it makes you feel truly horrible.

Welcome to Kroger, dude.

I won't bore you with a repost of my response on the write-up thread last week. But here's what happened: I was pushing carts last week, the week prior to Memorial Day weekend/week. It was in the 90s. We couldn't keep the carts in the store; it was like the main entrance had leaked into a wormhole of space-time somewhere and they kept vanishing. I can take 11 at a time (I'm a courtesy clerk, obviously) when I push myself hard enough, but I return on days like that and eight to ten are gone. It's only been a few minutes.

So, anyway, supervisor comes out and I see her looking around. I'm pushing about ten carts in front of me. I'm hot, I'm tired, I'm frustrated, I'm stressed, I'm hot, I'm stressed, it's really a pain in the ass. I don't raise my voice yelling, but I do tell her "Please don't say anything, this isn't worth minimum wage, I'm doing the best that I can." She says she wasn't going to say anything and tells me she knows I am doing the best job that I can. But she goes back inside and complains to the manager. Said manager is a total b-i-t-c-h and has gradually leeched her soul away to Kroger over 20 years. Manager comes over and asks me to come upstairs and talk to her when I am done.

So I go inside and she and co-manager bring me in to a meeting. I man up and admit to saying what I said but try to explain that it's a stressful position, especially with the hot weather, the busy schedule, one person has a rough time doing it.

Where am I going with this? Well here's where. Well they wrote me up but when I tried to explain to them my reasoning behind what I did (remember, I had already admitted to it) their attitude was "Well you can part ways with us today and we will be okay with that" and the added bonus of "We told you this was what you would have to do when you took this job."

Yea. Basically they didn't give a s-h-i-t about my emotional or physical state. Dude I drank two of those 1pt bottle of Kroger-brand waters right in front of them, obviously drained, and they didn't ask me if I was okay, if I felt like anything, just basically asked me if it would happen again. I said it wouldn't. They wrote me up but I refused to sign it; looking back, regardless of what posters in here think of our union I am in it, and I should have had the balls to request our steward. But I was exhausted, stressed, tired, my blood pressure and pulse were both up. Pushing 140-160 or more pounds of weight manually up an incline takes a lot out of you, especially as the weather gets hotter.

So essentially I have lost all emotional attachment to my store. I was giving what I had thought was 110% before that meeting but now it's barely 100%. Why should I care about the additional ten percent if THEY don't care about the 100 that I give? The hell with them. It's just a job for me and one I am trying to leave at the earliest opportunity. As soon as I can have some sort of confirmed stable income outside of Kroger, whether it's hired from their competitors or just another job somewhere else, I'm out of this hell hole.

I was half tempted to respond with "Your 35k a year makes you a real big shot, huh.", heh.

A lot of people working in the store seem to think co-managers 'have it made' with an easy six figure salary. Haha. If only the kiss-ups knew that half the time the co-managers make less per hour than a department head. I think generally it's about $40K for a CM, $75K for a SM, and $150K for a DisM. I could be wrong :D

Once you get your schedule work your hours but dont clock in early. A few months back there was this note near the time clocks that basically said you must "work your shift." Work your shift and if they ask you if you can stay over if you dont need to say you cant. Do what you can during your shift. Someone on this forum made the point, "you will never work fast enough for them and at times depending on what you have to deal with you can get a good portion of it done but not all of it "all the time".

Its not worth killing yourself/ and stressing out although some people and management wont get off their high horse.

If I'm asked to stay over and I'm not needed, then that pretty much means I'll get $14 an hour for doing nothing. It sounds pretty appealing to me. Only someone with a life or a total jackass would refuse that.

It really isn't Kroger that is causing you grief, it apparently is the manager that works for Kroger. Kroger is a fine company but sometimes a person will slip between the cracks and be given some authority they do not know how to handle. This happens everywhere. It is especially risky for Kroger to have these people in places of authority because they replace Kroger standards with their own made up rules. This can be down right risky for the consumer if they allow friends to sell outdated product knowingly specifically ground meat. There are many foods that can and will make a customer sick, and to do so because ou are friends with the person doing it is questionable to say the least. This is why all managers should make daily checks of their fresh meat, and deli departments to make sure product is being rotated and everything is in date. If not it and it is getting close to date they need to formulate a plan to sell the product while it is still wholesome, not allow risks to be taken by the public. Kroger is a very large corporation and it does not behoove them to allow competition to get the upper hand because of middle manhanded essayed mighty attitudes. Hang in there and do the job that we all know needs to be done for the stockholders of the company, and the customers that grace us with their business. But never do anything that will jeopardize the well being of a customer, or the safety of those that come in the store. Good luck.
