People associate the nastiest products to Mexico, you aren't gonna change their minds with some trashy t-shirts made in Haiti and a few cheap displays. Already a fail, people are laughing at it as soon as they walk in. How about a "Taste of America" you morons.

Courtesy clerk. I got my apron yesterday as I clocked out. Asked if I should wear it in the parking lot and was told yes.

Not going to happen.

Humiliating enough to wear it in the store. In the parking lot it just becomes more clothes to get hot and sweaty. It will get dirty and covered in sweat.

In 80-90 degree temps I will not wear any extra clothing other than the safety vest.

This is a stupid promotion.

But that doesn't mean that they're wanted, and neither does it mean that they get to shove their culture down on our throat. They love it so much? Why don't they go back where they're from? I'm sick of them screaming at me in broken English about why they can't buy expensive crab legs with their WIC card and keep nagging about how I should be giving them discounts since they're "new".

On another note...

Courtesy clerks get aprons? Lucky bastards. Over here we had to give them the green shirt and a black cap (like as if that's gonna help).

I can agree that with the above anon. America was built on immigration so you people can get over it. But to that one anon that brought up 'white folk', how the hell can you assume that the person who posted this is white? For all you know he can be any race. I'm black and i think it's stupid too. I also agree with the other guy about them bringing pushing their culture on us. I drove through part of town and I swear it was like a mini mexico. On top of that i have customers that barely speak any english and it drives me crazy because they complain about the prices to me and even though I speak a little spanish, I don't always understand what the hell they are saying. They will speak some broken English then go into full blown spanish mode and I'm just standing there like uhhhhh no comprende....

Let me clear this up real quick.  It's the Customers that don't like it.  The ones that are supposed to leave highly satisfied.  The employees don't like it either because we see the waste coming.  I would like to put this in my bunker but can't because we have to put crap in there that doesn't sell which will cause more out of stocks and less sales.  And for the employees who think it's a great idea,  they would wear fuzzy bunny slippers and clown sun glasses if a manager told them to wear it.

I dunno, the customers at my store generally like the food product sales and their samples and we get a decent sales boost.

Customers love free samples. However, customers hate obscure and almost unknown products that are priced quite a bit higher than any comparative item in the store.

Just last night we had to mark down a TON of salsa that was about to go bad. It wasn't our regular salsa, but that weird mango salsa or whatever the hell that concoction was.

Those red, white, and green cookies? Had to mark down a lot of them. Even then no one's buying them as marked down.

I agree America was built by immigrants they built the greatest country on the planet. But the new wave of immigrants actually contribute nothing to America sure for the most part they aren't all bad people but let's face it People came here worked hard loved America learned english. Now what we got is people who hate the country refuse to learn english and only want handouts. Mexicans get a bad rap because they're the majority same thing happened with italians I got nothing against mexicans but people are fed up with the crime, the free loaders abd so on from mexico. It was a very dumb decision by the college girls at Kroger there was plenty of other countries to choose from. I think Mexico, italy, china and so on is pointless everyone already eats it.

New immigrants sorry the bad out ways the good with them. Btw your illegal friends are part of the reason why kroger pays you nothing.
Go check out parts of LA its a disaster like a third world country.

I'm half Mexican and I think if mexicans wanna complain then we should adopt their laws no welfare no free stuff oh and a nice long ditch they line up illegals on before they machine gun them. Go wave a forgin flag there and see what happens.

This is what we call cognitive dissonance.

People associate the nastiest products to Mexico? I don't know, Mexican restaurants are pretty popular. I enjoyed the sampling event that Kroger had for the employees for the last two Saturdays. The uniforms are stupid, but the rest of it is fine. It's nice to have something different once in a while, and it seems to be going well at my store.

This is really comical in Los Angeles where every day is taste of Mexico.  With all the real mexican markets here who the fock wants to buy PS salsa Or even worse Kroger salsa?

From my understanding if it is a success then there will be a taste of Italy, a taste of Asia, etc....

Wtf?  Now we are trying to create holiday selling periods.  This event was really labor intensive.  Especially the signing and pos. Of course there wasn't enough hours to do it.

oh what will these college girls in bum**** Ohio come up with next?

yes people tend to think products from Mexico are no good like beef and produce and they're quick to not want to buy it but its funny because almost all the produce in America is handled by mexicans lol.

If Kroger really knew much about Mexico in recent years it would know that the "taste" includes a s-h-i-t-load of drugs and lots of naked, beheaded bodies.

I wouldn't step one foot in Mexico if it meant somehow getting laid.

I asked our store HR person that gave me my aprons why didn't we do this closer to Cinco De Mayo?  Only reply I got was We got to do what they tell us to do.  It would make more sense to me to do this if we had a large mexican population where I live.  I live in Southern WV, and sorry if this sounds racist, but aside from the employees at the few Mexican restaraunts in town and a local landscaping company, we have very few people of Mexican heritage here.  Our customers HATE it!

Without giving my specific store away, I can tell you I am under the Atlanta division.

As far as I can tell, all the courtesy clerks were given one underneath our store and every other store in the region.

However, yesterday when I came to work it was the first day for us to "wear" the aprons.

I saw the cashiers wearing one, but none of us courtesy clerks were wearing an apron.

I stored mine underneath one of the check-out lanes. Never had a word said to me.

If I ever have anything said during this dumbass promotion, fine, I will wear it -- even though it restricts my movement around the neck and shoulders.

But I sure as hell won't wear it in the parking lot.

I'm 100% certain that Taste of Mexico wasn't devised to cater to Latin American customers, or the increasing number of illegals... or whatever.  I keep reading that here, and hearing it at work.

Even something as ill-advised as this, Kroger's target customer, as best I can tell, is the 28-45 year old soccer mom with 3 kids, lots of disposable income, and heavily sedated on prescription medication.  Anything else is just "throwing a bone".

Man... our store is gonna be marking all this stuff down.  We got WAY too much product, and it's not moving.

They added out 15 cases of some type of fiesta salad in our deli department and it goes out of date June 8.  We marked it 99 cents a pound.  I don't know why they add all that stuff out.  You can't force people to buy it.  Has anyonew tried the churros?  To me they both taste pretty much the same.  Actually, the best part is the cinnamon sugar on them.  They're not worth 99 cents a piece though.

I can't help but agree, reduced nearly all of our bakery products so far. Not to mention the time I wasted making tons of Christmas coloured cupcakes that are all getting marked down. Customers here are generally confused and don't know if it's some sort of Mexican holiday or what's going on. Not to mention our biggest demographic is elderly people who have been buying the same products for years.

I don't get why the "Mexican cookies" are just Lofthouse cookies with green and red sprinkles.

The churros aren't bad (i tried the dulce de leche one) but I don't think I'd buy them all the time for 99 cents each.

My theory: they ordered way too many leprechaun-green shirts and aprons for the Simple Truth promotion, so they had to figure out some use for them. The reason it wasn't a taste of America was because green is not a particularly US-themed color, but it is in the Mexican flag, so there you go.

As for the red caps, my only theory there is they decided everyone at Kroger should dress up as Mario from Super Mario Brothers and ordered a bunch of them, but then sobered up and had to figure something out.

lots could have used green and red. But you got a point that simple truth law suit put simple truth away for awhile

Have you heard the new in store ads for the churros?  They want us to have them hot in the afternoons along with the prime time French bread.  Frankly, I'm not impressed with them.  I'd much rather have one of those colossal coffee cakes or a package of schnecken.

The organic department is pretty cool. Lots of...obscure products. But we aren't Whole Foods. That being said, let's just keep being a grocery store or just turn into a Walmart clone. Let's not have this "in-between" shlt where we're wasting money on promotional items while at the same time reducing our grocery selection. sheesh
