Taste of Mexico aprons and shirts began today at my store! And on the 70th anniversary of D-Day!

Well I wonder who the corporate a-hole was that decided today was the day at my store to begin wearing the "Taste of Mexico" shirts on the 70th anniversary of D-Day?  A lot of customers were offended by the celebration of another country but not one mention of our military!  I live in Southern WV and as a state we had  one of the highest per capita rates of military service in WWII.  My great uncle who served in WWII must be spinning in his grave.  Kroger has not one drop of respect for those that served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

I'm a proud American but my roots go back to Mexico, and although I'm happy that Kroger is embracing the country where my grandparents came from, they should have only done it at the stores located in areas with a high population of Latinos. Also they shouldn't have gone all out have forced employees to wear the green Mexico shirts,  change the background music to mariachi, and re-decorate the entire store. They should have just kept it simple and just promote the Mexican foods on display that they're trying to sell, and offered the free samples.

I haven't heard any racism complaints, just the god awful displays and music.  And lack of remembering D-Day.

C'est pas mon ami! I'm sure D-day was an afterthought to corporate. We have a few veterans at my store and they were disgusted about the shirts.

Ours started two days ago -- but I didn't wear my apron that I was provided as a courtesy clerk.

Came in today to work for four hours. Only saw two courtesy clerks not wearing the aprons.

the damn thing restricts my movement! Luckily I came up with an excuse not to wear mine today. I got put on lot duty as soon as I arrived. We had been having heavy rains and there were hardly any carts in the store entrance. I have made it clear to a couple of my fellow courtesy clerks and at least one front end supervisor that I will not wear the apron while on 'lot duty. It's already too much to ask of us as courtesy clerks to do that job in the heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc. and have yet another piece of clothing getting in the way or restricting movement, plus the damn thing would get dirty anyway or on days like we had today it would get wet.

I really hate this promotion. The only Taste of Mexico  I need to hear is "ay carumba!"

it's not racist to be offended considering we've just basically ignored memorial day other than pushing beer, totally ignored d-day, we won't even notice flag day and 4th of July is coming up and in my store taste of mexico has more promiinance than anything else. it's in all depts even floral.

this should've been done in May and no one would think twice.

I don't recall any stores mentioning D-Day. Why is it such a big deal that Kroger didn't? The Taste of Mexico is a promotion of products...not a celebration. Do people get offended when Kohls has their big Memorial Day sale? Because let me clue you in, stores aren't having these big sales to "celebrate" the occasion, they are having the sales because a lot of people have that day off and that's a big giant retail hook to get them in to spend money.

D-Day was not over looked by ANY retail store. It just wasn't a concern to them because it wouldn't make them any money. Unfortunately that is just the facts.

Illegal immigrants from Mexico drive costs down, not up. They work below the US minimum wage in conditions that are cheaper for the employer than they would be for legal hires.

So illegal immigrants from Mexico are the ONLY ones who drive costs up? I've met a LOT more hard working Mexicans than not. The people I see milking the system are US citizens. The most patriotic person I know is not a native US citizen. He's Middle Eastern descent and from France. Anon...you are ignorant. Not just ignorant but a racist too.

I can't think of many businesses that celebrated D-Day. Maybe some car dealerships, but probably not Kroger or Publix. We had a Memorial Day weekend sale. Kroger isn't dissing the US Military. They're actually one of the top employers of vets. People are just looking for a way to get out of this ToM ****.

Things cost a lot so you know the taxes taken out of your check and the customers checks a big chuck of it goes to take care of the millions of Illegals.. schooling, health care, so on and so on so when things COST a lot people get frustrated because they have to pay more and they almost always think of illegals and being taxed to hell epically when it's on the news as it has been. Illegals from Mexico are the majority here so they are associated by it the most and if you live in a border city or state then it's even more of a issue I know some Americans abuse the system but they aren't in the news so it's not a issue for people. which is why this was a bad idea almost everyone knew before this started it was a bad idea. bad press is bad press.

I'm sure you met a lot of hard working mexicans who hasn't? once again you're missing the point and if you are mexican than I don't know what to tell you because I have family members that are mexican and feel the same way about illegals as other Americans but that's a whole other issue.

Yes most people that come here are patriotic like your friend and people from the past they come here because they love the country and want to be American that's how the greatest country on the planet was build but hate to break it to you a lot of the Mexicans coming here don't come here for that reason they don't care or respect the flag, the language or the people. huge difference if you don't believe me research it for yourself. did the person you know come here illegally and ask for hand outs? doubt it.

I'm far from racist in fact I think America should adopt Mexico's laws on Immigration now if I was racist I would have said we should treat illegals how Mexico treats them.

I'm pretty sure that in most states, more money is taken out of your taxes to care for white people than the illegal immigrants.

And i'm white so i'm not being racist. it's just true.

D-Day recognition aside, the most infuriating thing about the Taste of Mexico fiasco is seeing so much money pissed away on gimmicky nonsense when so many stores are screaming for sufficient labor and functioning equipment.

Amen to that brother. Kroger needs to clean up its mess of understaffing before it should be able to have a party.

I find it ironic that i see a sign about "open positions" for various positions near the entrance of the store yet people leave after seeing the madness and those that are still there are left with more work to get done during their shift

In my store they didn't add hours for the demos, they cut normal labor hours. It's insidious. They won't let us cover call outs either but we're still supposed to get everything done with a smile.  It's depressing how badly run my store is now.  It used to be a great place to work.

My store manager manager makes announcements thanking our veterans every senior day. I would think it means more to honor our veterans daily, or at least more often that memorial day, veterans day.. D-Day anniversary.. that's kind of like only caring about your significant other on valentines day. And nothing is stopping anyone from noticing the guy wearing the navy hat and thanking him for his service.

We are seriously thinking about not shopping at Krogers because we are sick of this.  This is an awful time to try to push the Mexican issue down our throats when the United States is being invaded by illegal aliens from South of the border.  What is Krogers trying to prove with this crap anyway.  I'm not a racist, so don't even go there.  What I am is an American citizen who is sick and tired of having stuff crammed down my throat.  All this kind of activity does is make a person who is generally accepting of others get sick and tired of it.  People in American are getting shoved down the toilet.  Our feelings, our constitution, our laws and many, many other things.  We are sick of it and to have to walk into Krogers and have everything Mexican is just over the edge.  I ask again, what exactly is Krogers trying to prove? They are alienating their American citizens from shopping in their stores.

You have no idea what you are talking about.  You have no idea of what kind of drain the illegal aliens is causing to the educational system.  The money that has to be spent at the cost of the taxpayers is phenomenal.  Yes, we have people in our own country that are illiterate that have many opportunities put before them but they do not utilize what they have been given.  Trust me, I've worked in high schools and you have no idea of how many giveaways are happening.  Now the increased services we have to provide are outrageous.  These illegals obviously come with no English language skills so now we have to hire interpreters, many have special needs so that is an increased cost and that is just the icing on the cake.  You don't know what you are talking about unless you've worked in a school or at JFS to see how much of your tax dollars are being pissed away and taken away from you when you get up and go to work each and every day.  Get real and get a life.  Dig into some of the school districts where you live to see just exactly how much it is costing those of us who do work to pay for all of the people who sit on their asses and do nothing.  Trust me it happens.  I'm not only speaking of the Mexicans but the folks who live in the US and let everyone else support them.  They don't pay any student fees, they don't pay for their lunch, they don't pay for college applications, they don't pay to participate in sports, they get their babies taken care of free and get free supplies and free medical care.  So you bleeding heart need to get out of your little glass house and stop thinking we are being cruel by not wanting to continue to support all of this.  Just what do you think America is going to become if this doesn't stop.  We have our own illegimate children to support and now we want to accept people who are invading our country.  You need to do your homework before you start calling people racists because you do not have a clue what this is costing us all.

Every time someone yells racism it is just a cloak to cover up.  Why don't you get a clue and stop blaming and yelling at racism every time someone some one speaks the truth about the ridiculous situation here in America.  No other country would tolerate any of this, not for one second.  You have nothing to back up your argument so you yell racism, racism.  Honestly, all of this going on is what is causing more and more people to develop ill feelings toward the people who do not follow the rules, and to those who allow it.  You need to get a grip, you're living under a rock.  I don't work at Krogers but I sure hope one or more of you Kroger employees let them know how much they are pissing off their customers with this crap.  I even think I see less cars at Krogers since this started.

Nobody is talking about "Legal Latinos", try to understand.  Americans are sick and tired of those who disrespect our country and do not follow our laws.  Come here legally and I'm sure no one will have a problem as long as our flag is respected and our laws are followed.

You realize that people would come here legally if there was a better route to do so right?

www.alllaw.com/articles/nolo/us-immigration/how-much-will-it-cost-get-green-card.html

That's just the beginning of the process.

Now, when you live in a poorer country, a couple thousand could be a lot of money to you. If we're supposed to be a "free country" and all this equality freedom BS, then why are only supporting the rich?
