So far three cashiers have been fired, including one who's worked on the front for a whopping 20(!) years, has been in the union for years, and is well-known for being ethical and knowledgable. And supposedly there's more to come next week. And they've been so secretive about it, the fired people are (presumably) told to make up an excuse for leaving early, and just vanish, it's like we're in the CIA or something. Usually when there's an event of this nature, we get gossip, rumors, etc. Now everyone is completely dumbstuck, and no one who knows anything is talking. The only solid rumor we have is that one of them (who's been around for a year or so) was using her Kroger card to ring up customers (a big no-no obviously), but that's about it. So everyone (including me) is nervously panicking, recounting any and all possible mistakes and slip-ups they may have ever made, and wondering...
Has anything like this ever hit your store?

Nope, never had anything like that. Night crew always has high turnover because it attracts the psychos, but every other department only has one a couple times a year.

lol.
Are the psychos the ones that stay or the ones that leave?
I stayed around for 6+ years on nights...Still there... I will neither confirm nor deny that I need my head examined!
it's happened at my store before. loss prevention will come in and people will disappear. sometimes it's a shock. sometimes it's not so much.
when it happens it can create a feeling of paranoia. been there done that. the worst thing is they won't tell you what happened so you don't know if it's a mistake that could be a training issue or if it was theft.
when i make a mistake i figure no news is good news until they call you upstairs to write you up or fire you i guess.
What I think is scary is the most senior grocery employee in my store disappeared this week. Nobody on day shift seems to know what happened to him. I heard that he got bitched at a week ago for something petty though.

Generally they're gone pretty quick, leaving us with a stable night crew for a few months before somebody can't handle it anymore and transfers. We've had night crew employees bring knives and guns to work.
